Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers – EPL, January 30, 2021
Both these teams could do with a few more points at the moment – and a confidence-boosting win that could set them up for the next few weeks.
Palace has looked worrying predictable this season, while Wolves has taken a huge step back from the exploits of last season. A win for either side could really make a difference.
Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Odds
Even with Palace’s better recent form, BetOnline has decided to make Wolves the slight favorite here. The thinking must be that Nuno Espirito Santo’s team has the ability to go out and win – even if it is not showing that form right now. The draw might seem like the better bet, though, even if it is only because these two just can’t seem to win a game at the current time.
Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Preview
Palace lost 3-2 at home to West Ham on Tuesday, but that scoreline does not reflect the dominance the Hammers showed on the night. Roy Hodgson’s side was consistently outplayed and woefully exposed – once again – at set-pieces. There seemed to be no inventive solution from the home side to get back into the game.
The second goal came in stoppage time at the end of the game and only served to make the result look more palatable for the Eagles. Hodgson might be happy that his team is scoring a few goals at least, but it constantly looks susceptible to conceding – and that will be a problem in the coming months if it is not addressed.
Wolves have not really scored that many goals themselves since it lost Raul Jimenez to a nasty head injury in December. It has also only won one game in the league – against the Chelsea team, it could only manage a goalless draw with this week. That point will be celebrated by the Black Countryside as a job well done, though.
Nuno Espirito Santo obviously set out his team not to concede at Stamford Bridge in what was Thomas Tuchel’s first game as Chelsea boss. Some more invention might have been an idea as the new manager got used to his new team – but there is a worrying lack of that kind of play at Wolves at the moment.
Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction and Pick
None of the three-game result options offered by BetOnline really inspire confidence, but the draw bet looks the more likely to provide some winning returns to me. Palace and Wolves have both struggled to win this season – managing just six victories each – and if the visiting side adopts the same defensive tactics again on Saturday as it did in the week, I can’t see Palace breaking it down.
