Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United – EPL, January 26, 2021
West Ham looks to continue its 100% record in 2021 when it travels across London to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Tuesday.
The home side has not fared anywhere near as well since the turn of the year and will hope that a weekend off has helped recharge the batteries.
Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United Odds
BetOnline has made West Ham the favorites to come away from this one with the points, but I would not have been surprised if the odds had been even more damning for Palace. The home side has not looked good in recent weeks and will need to show a whole new sense of determination to change my mind for the games ahead.
Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United Match Preview
Crystal Palace had already been knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves in the third round, so Roy Hodgson will have had some extra time to spend on the training ground in the hope of improving his squad. The last outing was the 4-0 defeat at the hands of a much better Manchester City – so the only way is up at the moment.
It will be interesting to see whether Hodgson decides to give his new loan signing an immediate start against West Ham on Tuesday. Jean-Philippe Mateta has arrived from Mainz and is expected the provide the goals that have been sorely missing this season. If Wilfried Zaha is left out because of injury, the French striker may well be given his chance.
David Moyes will be feeling much more confident about his team’s prospects. He has overseen an excellent start to 2021, in which West Ham has won every single game in the Premier League and the FA Cup since the start of the year. The 4-0 win over Doncaster at the weekend was very straightforward – and meant that Moyes could rest some of his more important players.
Now that Sebastian Haller has been moved on, after an unsuccessful period at the London Stadium, Michail Antonio will be expected to continue to score the goals. But Jarrod Bowen also scored in the win against West Brom last time out – and it is the attacking midfielders that could turn this team into a real contender for the European spots.
Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United Prediction and Pick
West Ham United to Win+130
Much will be expected of Mateta at Crystal Palace – as the club needs to find some goals from somewhere. There is far too much pressure on Zaha to win games for the Eagles, and some help will be welcomed. But it might take a while for the striker to adapt to the Premier League. West Ham is on a roll at the moment – and this should end up being a sixth win in a row in all competitions.
