Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea – English Premier League, April 10, 2021

Roy Hodgson and Thomas Tuchel have vastly different hopes for the way this season will end, but will both be looking to take three points from this encounter on Saturday.

Palace has improved recently and could give a Champions League qualifying-chasing Chelsea a tough game at Selhurst Park.

Chelsea to Win-192

Chelsea’s surprise defeat at home to West Brom last weekend has obviously not made a lasting impression on BetOnline, as the bookmaker still makes Thomas Tuchel’s side the odds on favorite here.

But with Palace’s ability to frustrate opponents, the draw bet price might be worth looking at too.

Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea Match Preview

It has been another largely disappointing season at Selhurst Park, but Roy Hodgson will be happy that his number one priority – staying up – has just about been achieved. The draw away at Everton on Monday gave Palace its 38th point of the campaign – and that should be enough given the form of others further down the table.

That point was won thanks to a late goal from Michy Batshuayi, who has a knack for scoring late-season goals for clubs he’s played for. He also scored for his national side during the break from the EPL, so it is a shame that he will be unavailable for this one, as he is not allowed to play against his parent club.

Hodgson still has Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze’s to count on for goals, though, even if Christian Benteke is sometimes frustratingly poor up front. But it is the defense that has improved recently, becoming the main reason for a spike in results. Chelsea will have to do well to break through the Palace back line.

It will also be Chelsea that has played during the week, as Tuchel’s side took on Porto in its Champions League quarterfinal first leg game on Wednesday. The German coach will be expecting a vast improvement after the shocking 5-2 his side received at the hands of West Brom last weekend.

Having Thiago Silva sent off after just half an hour didn’t help matters, either.

However, a team that expects to finish in the top four should still have had enough to make the scoreline respectable against a club with one of the worst goal-scoring records in the division. Much more is to be expected this Saturday.

Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

Although Chelsea will no doubt come back from that West Brom debacle, I do think that the extra game in the week will have an effect on its ability to come away from Selhurst Park with anything more than a point. Palace’s defense has suddenly decided to turn up in the last few weeks and could frustrate Chelsea this weekend.
