Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC Betting Preview – MLS, September 19, 2020
With just one defeat in 11 games this year, Columbus sits three points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference. A series of positive results has seen Nashville climb to ninth, but the MLS newcomer is still 12 points behind the Crew.
The Black & Gold welcomes Nashville to Ohio on Saturday, September 19, with both sides enjoying a four-game unbeaten run. Read on to see my Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC prediction and betting pick.
Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC Odds
You won’t find a bigger odds gap in America’s top flight this week. In fact, the price for the Columbus win has to be the lowest I’ve seen in MLS this year. Nashville’s recent upturn in form means the high odds for the draw and the away win could turn a few heads. But does the Tennesse team really stand a chance?
I assess both sides’ prospects below.
Since the regular season resumed, Columbus has been almost unstoppable. The Crew’s sole defeat of 2020 came against New York City last month. But convincing victories over Chicago Fire, Philadelphia Union, and Cincinnati have seen the Ohio outfit seal top spot in the table.
Only Orlando City has scored more goals in the Eastern Conference than Columbus. However, it is at the other end of the pitch where Caleb Porter’s men have made a name for themselves.
Having conceded just four goals in 11 outings, the Crew boasts the best defensive record in the league by a significant margin. Remarkably, the Black & Gold has kept seven clean sheets this year, and another shutout could be just around the corner.
Indeed, Columbus will be confident of keeping yet another clean sheet against the second-lowest scorer in the conference. Nashville has only managed to net nine goals in ten games this term, although the team is undoubtedly moving in the right direction.
Gary Smith’s men lost five of their opening six games this season, but a solid turnaround has seen them go unbeaten in their previous four outings. Victories over Inter Miami and Atlanta United, along with draws against the two Florida clubs, have seen the team from Tennessee steer clear of trouble.
Nashville heads into this clash on the back of a hugely impressive 4-2 win over Atlanta. Still, extending their unbeaten streak to five games will not be easy against high-flying Columbus.
Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC Prediction and Pick
Columbus Crew to Win1.20
With the sky-high odds for the draw and the away win, I desperately wanted to make a case for Nashville to get something from this game. But despite the Tennessee club’s recent resurgence, I can’t see Columbus slipping up on Saturday. After all, the Crew is top of the table for a reason.
