Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC – MLS, November 29, 2020
Nashville’s maiden MLS season just keeps on getting better, doesn’t it?
After cruising past Inter Miami in the play-in round, the Boys in Gold beat Toronto to set up a conference semi-final clash with Columbus.
The Crew edged the Red Bulls in a five-goal thriller last weekend, meaning that Nashville will visit Ohio on Sunday, November 29, to decide who reaches the conference finals.

Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC Odds
As you can see, 10bet views Columbus (2.25) as the favorite to win on Sunday. But the narrow odds gap proves that the bookies are fully aware of Nashville’s (3.05) threat.
The Crew has the home advantage, but it feels like Gary Smith’s men have the momentum. Let’s take a closer look at both sides.
Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC Preview
It’s fair to say that Columbus stumbled across the regular-season finish line. Caleb Porter’s men enjoyed a seriously strong mid-season, yet the only managed to win two of their final five matches – and three of their last ten.
That said, the Crew finished the campaign on a high. After seeing off eventual Supporters’ Shield champs Philadelphia, the Ohio outfit beat Atlanta United, setting up a playoff clash with the Red Bulls.
Goals from Pedro Santos, Darlington Nagbe, and Gyasi Zardes handed Columbus a 3-2 victory last weekend, although Porter’s team were forced to survive a late Red Bulls rally. Brian White gave the New Yorkers hope, but the Crew was able to hold on and advance.
Columbus has been far from convincing during the latter stages of the campaign, yet Porter’s squad is packed with talented players. Defender Johanthan Mensah was recently named in the 2020 MLS Best XI, while Zardes and Santos are among the top scorers in the league.
The fact that Nashville managed to secure a playoff spot in their debut top-flight season is a huge achievement in itself. But having already seen off Inter Miami and Toronto in the postseason, it feels like anything is possible for the expansion team.
The Boys in Gold made light work of the Herons, but they were made to work extremely hard for the victory over Toronto. Smith’s men only saw 38% possession at Rentschler Field, yet Daniel Rios eventually netted an extra-time winner.
Still, Nashville doesn’t need to dominate their opponents to win games. We know that by now. Smith’s men don’t score many goals, but their defensive solidity enables them to compete with the country’s top sides.
Nobody expected the Tennessee team to make it this far. But as the postseason unfolds, Nashville is edging ever closer to the MLS Cup.
Columbus Crew vs. Nashville SC Betting Pick
Nashville SC to Win3.05
Nashville is on a roll right now. After beating last year’s runner-up Toronto in the previous round, Smith’s men will be brimming with belief.
Columbus boasts a strong squad, but the team has endured a series of inconsistent results lately. I’m expecting the Crew to put up a strong fight. However, I’m backing Nashville to extend their fairytale run.
