Columbus Crew vs. Montreal Impact – MLS, October 7, 2020
Montreal Impact ended a four-game losing streak by drawing 2-2 with Chicago Fire last weekend, but Thierry Henry’s men could struggle to prevent another loss when they face Columbus Crew on Wednesday, October 7.
The Black & Gold has only lost one of their last eight games and heads into this clash top of the Eastern Conference – 14 points ahead of Montreal.

Columbus Crew vs. Montreal Impact Odds
The top online soccer betting sites haven’t sprung any surprises with their odds for this game. Conference-leader Columbus is the bookies’ clear favorite to win on Wednesday, and you can’t argue with that viewpoint.
Montreal will be buoyed up slightly, having ended their dismal losing run. But drawing with Chicago is nothing to get too excited about. The away side is the rank outsider for a reason here.
Columbus Crew vs. Montreal Impact Preview
Despite failing to win either of their previous two games, Columbus remains top of the Eastern Conference, albeit on goal difference. A defeat to Toronto and a draw with Dallas has halted the Crew’s momentum somewhat, although a six-game unbeaten run across August and September has kept the club at the summit of the table.
Only Toronto and Orlando have netted more goals than Columbus in the division this term. Caleb Porter’s men have enjoyed a free-scoring campaign up to now, but the team’s success has arguably come from their performances at the other end of the pitch.
Remarkably, Columbus has conceded just ten goals in 15 regular-season games this season. The Black & Gold have conceded five in their previous three outings. However, the visit of Montreal provides the Crew with a decent opportunity to get another clean sheet on the board.
In all honesty, it’s difficult to predict how the Impact will fare on Wednesday. Henry’s side got the better of Canadian rivals Toronto and Vancouver Whitecaps at the beginning of last month, but four straight defeats quickly put an end to the team’s promising run.
It could be argued that Montreal was fortunate to get anything from their previous outing. Chicago dominated large spells of Sunday’s clash, and although Henry’s came from behind to lead, they ultimately failed to hold onto their advantage.
The Quebec club is going through a tough period at the moment. But unfortunately, a trip to Columbus isn’t going to make life any easier for the Canadians.
My Betting Pick
Columbus Crew to Win1.40
There is no denying that Montreal will feel a lot better having ended their losing streak. The Impact was plummeting down the standings at a rapid rate, but their draw with Chicago has stemmed the tide – for now.
The odds for the away win (6.50) and the draw (4.60) are bound to attract some attention from the riskier bettors out there. But in my eyes, the Columbus win at 1.40 is the way to go here.
Granted, this will probably be the lowest price for a win in MLS this week. But the Crew’s formidable form makes it very difficult to bet against the Black & Gold at the moment.
