Colorado Rockies vs. Houston Astros Pick – August 18, 2020

| August 18, 2020 2:42 am PDT

The Colorado Rockies managed to end a three-game skid defeating the Texas Rangers 10-6 at the Coors Field.

Colorado was in a bad rod after losing five in six, but now they bounced back and are hoping for a win or two in this series against the Astros. The Rockies are now in 2nd place of the NL West standings, with a 13-8 record and three wins behind the Dodgers.

The Astros, on the other side, are playing their best baseball this season after recording four consecutive wins and sweeping the Mariners along the way, allowing only five runs in that sequence. The Astros (11-10) have moved up the ladder, currently holding the 2nd place of the AL West, but are still short five wins to the Athletics.

Rockies vs. Astros Odds

Rockies +1.5 -120
Astros -1.5 +100
Rockies to Win +179
Astros to Win -189
Over 9 -105
Under 9 -115

There is no surprise seeing the Astros being strongly favored by the online sportsbooks here, and that is not only because of their excellent form of late.

Another reason for the favorite tag is pitching matchup: Antonio Senzatela vs. Zack Greinke and Houston’s pitcher has a clear advantage here

Rockies vs. Astros Preview

Miraculously, Antonio Senzatela somehow managed to escape a loss so far in the season, even though he pitched badly in some games. He has four starts and 3-0 record, mostly thanks to great play from the batters, who often saved his skin.

Senzatela has 3.91 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and allowed 24 hits and 11 runs with 18 strikeouts and five walks in 23 innings. This will be his first battle with the Astros, and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the likes of Gurriel, Bregman, Reddick, and Correa, all of whom have managed to record at least 20 hits so far in this campaign.

Zack Greinke will start for Houston, which will be his fifth start of the season. Up to this point, he stands at 1-0, has 2.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and allowed 19 hits and six runs along with 18 strikeouts and four walks in 21.1 innings. The veteran right-hander met Colorado on three occasions last year and had a 2-1 record with 3.09 ERA after allowing 31 hits and 14 runs in 32 innings.

It’s not going to be easy for Greinke to outsmart red-hot Charlie Blackmon and always dangerous Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story, but he has enough experience to excel under pressure.

Rockies vs. Astros Pick

This game is the toughest one for the Rockies in this series as they have to face Zack Greinke, who has only five losses in the last 35 starts. Senzatela is still unbeaten this season, and that has to change quickly, so I am backing the Astros to hand him the first defeat of the campaign.

Colorado has a chance in the opening and closing games of the series, but in this one, Houston will have an easier job.
