Colorado Rapids vs. Seattle Sounders Betting Preview – MLS, November 1, 2020
Having suffered two losses in the space of five days, Colorado Rapids will be desperate to avoid defeat this weekend. But with high-flying Seattle visiting DSG Park on Sunday, November 1, life only gets harder for Robin Fraser’s men.
The Sounders secured their playoff spot with an easy win over Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday, meaning the defending MLS Cup champions have only lost one of their previous seven outings.
After taking a look at the bookies’ odds, I give my Colorado Rapids vs. Seattle Sounders prediction and betting pick.
Colorado Rapids vs. Seattle Sounders Odds
Considering that Brian Schmetzer’s side is flying high at the top of the Western Conference, the price for the Seattle win (2.25) seems unusually high here.
Granted, Colorado (2.75) has four games in hand over the Sounders, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how the Rapids will fare on Sunday. But at first glance, the odds for the away win really stand out to me.
Due to the ongoing health situation, Colorado has only played 15 games this season. The Rapids’ tally of 19 points leaves them second-bottom in the Western Conference. However, on a points-per-game basis, Fraser’s men find themselves just inside the top eight.
The Rapids were thrashed 4-0 by Sporting Kansas City last week, although nobody expected them to hit the ground running following a month on the sidelines. Fraser’s men gave a much better account of themselves in their previous outing, but they were ultimately unable to prevent Minnesota United from winning 2-1.
Colorado actually edged the possession on Wednesday and created plenty of goalscoring opportunities. Andre Shinyashiki canceled out Robin Lod’s first-half strike, but a late Lalas Abubakar own goal handed the Loons the points.
The Rapids still stand an outside chance of reaching the playoffs, although the visit of Seattle probably won’t enhance their postseason ambitions.
The Sounders endured an uncharacteristic three-game winless run earlier in the month, losing to LAFC before drawing with San Jose Earthquakes and Portland Timbers. However, they returned to winning ways last time out with a straightforward victory over Vancouver.
Once again, Raul Ruidiaz was the hero for Seattle. The Peruvian contributed a goal and an assist on Wednesday, taking his tally to nine goals and three assists in his last ten appearances. Many believe that Ruidiaz must be included in this year’s MVP conversation.
But for all their attacking power, Schmetzer’s side has also been formidable at the other end of the pitch. The Sounders have only conceded 18 goals this year, so you probably won’t be surprised to hear that they boast the best defensive record in the Western Conference.
As we approach the playoffs, the reigning MLS Cup champions look ready to defend their crown.
Colorado Rapids vs. Seattle Sounders Pick
Seattle Sounders to Win2.25
Following a four-week lay-off, it feels like Colorado is starting all over again. The Rapids were beaten in their first two games back, and I’m expecting them to lose again on Sunday.
Seattle has already secured their spot in the playoffs, but Schmetzer will be eager for his players to head into the postseason with plenty of momentum. Beating Colorado will set the Sounders up nicely for their final two regular-season matches.
