Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas – College Football, September 12, 2020

| September 4, 2020 12:13 pm PDT

Les Miles got off to a rocky start as the Kansas head coach winning just three games in 2019. Coastal Carolina wasn’t a whole lot better finishing the year at 5-7, although one of their victories is definitely worth mentioning.

The Chanticleers marched into Lawrence and slid past the Jayhawks in what was an ugly, 12-9 battle.

Looking ahead toward their matchup in 2020, we could have another slugfest on our hands. This Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas betting preview sets the stage.

Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas Odds

  • Coastal Carolina (+3.5); -110
  • Kansas (-3.5); -110
  • Coastal Carolina to Win; +150
  • Kansas to Win; -170
  • Over 58; -110
  • Under 58; -110

Generating a Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas prediction starts by looking at the betting odds.

The Jayhawks should enjoy being the favorites because it won’t happen very often in the upcoming season. Kansas faces a slew of laborious tests against Big 12 competition immediately following this opening game, creating a sense of urgency for Coach Miles to find a way to beat Coastal Carolina.

Maybe the Jayhawks win, and maybe they don’t, but there’s a major discrepancy to point out that may affect the way you bet this game.

Under the guidance of Miles, Kansas has covered the spread just 28.6% of the time at David Booth Memorial Stadium. Flip the coin and Coastal Carolina was among the best in the nation as a visitor ATS in 2019.

Case in point – if you bet on the Chanticleers in all six of their road games, you went 5-1. That’ll suffice.

Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas Game Preview

Coastal Carolina’s roster pales in comparison to what Kansas will face in upcoming weeks, but Jamey Chadwell’s got a few nice pieces to work with. Bryce Carpenter and Fred Payton are once again in line to split the duties at quarterback, although RB CJ Marable is ready for a full load of work.

The rising senior ripped off 1,085 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2019, plus caught 38 balls for 298 yards and three more scores. Marable shredded the Jayhawks for 148 yards on 24 carries and scored both of the team’s touchdowns in the victory on September 7th.

Speaking of a shifty running back who dons jersey #1, Kansas has a pretty special runner in their backfield as well in Pooka Williams.

Listening to Coach Miles extoll Pooka kind of sounds like Morgan Freeman narrating a story with a happy message, but that just reiterates how much Williams means to this offense.

Pooka is getting it done behind a very suspect offensive line – a group that has to replace three starters, including current Bengals rookie Hakeem Adeniji. That’s bad news for either Thomas MacVittie or Miles Kendrick – whichever guy winds up receiving the starting nod under center.

On September 2nd just 10 days away from hosting the Chanticleers, Les Miles wasn’t even ready to name a starting quarterback.

Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas Pick

There’s no exact science that’ll guarantee a profit when betting on college football. However, certain predictions come easier than others.

Enter this Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas pick.

Not only did the Chanticleers beat the Jayhawks in Lawrence 12 months ago, but they are clearly a program that’s on the rise under the direction of Jamey Chadwell. All of the betting data on paper points us in the direction of backing CCU.

On top of that, ESPN’s matchup predictor pegged the “proud and fierce roosters” to win this game outright 53.7% of the time. Throw in the 3.5 points of insurance and I’m calling this one a “green-light” special.

  • Coastal Carolina (+3.5)
