Club Brugge vs. Borussia Dortmund – Champions League, November 4, 2020
Surprisingly, Club Brugge sits above Borussia Dortmund in Group F as the two sides prepare to face off in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 4.
Brugge beat Zenit on Matchday 1 before drawing with Lazio last week. Meanwhile, BVB lost to Lazio on opening day before beating Zenit on Matchday 2.
Can the Germans leapfrog the Belgians on Wednesday? After assessing the bookies’ odds, I share my Club Brugge vs. Borussia Dortmund prediction and betting pick.
Club Brugge vs. Borussia Dortmund Odds
Despite making an eye-catching start to the 2020/21 Champions League, Club Brugge (4.90) is still viewed as the outsider to win this game.
The online betting sites clearly favor Borussia Dortmund (1.66), but I’m sure the Belgians will be confident of snatching a draw (4.10).
Club Brugge vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview
Before the season got underway, I don’t think anyone expected Club Brugge to be ahead of Borussia Dortmund coming into Matchday 3. But following an unbeaten start to their UCL campaign, that is exactly where Philippe Clement’s men find themselves.
Club left it very lately to secure the victory on Matchday 1, with Charles De Ketelaere netting a 93rd-minute winner. Brugge enjoyed 60% possession against Lazio a week later, yet Hans Vanaken’s penalty was only enough to earn the Belgians a draw.
Despite winning just six of their opening 11 domestic games this term, Clement’s men are only two points behind frontrunner Charleroi in the Pro League. Club is also the second-highest scorer in the division, so Dortmund’s defense will need to be on top form on Wednesday.

Dortmund was beaten 3-1 by Lazio on Matchday 1, despite racking up 14 shots (seven on target) against the Italians. Erling Haaland scored BVB’s only goal in Rome, but the Norwegian’s efforts helped the team secure all three points against Zenit a week later.
Lucien Favre’s men didn’t break the deadlock until the 78th minute against Zenit, although the victory was never in doubt. Jadon Sancho opened the scoring on Matchday 2, before Haaland netted to take his tally to eight goals in nine appearances in all competitions this term.
Dortmund secured their fourth straight Bundesliga win on Saturday, seeing off Arminia Bielefeld 2-0. The victory also saw the team keep their fourth consecutive clean sheet on home soil. Remarkably, Favre’s men have only conceded two goals in six domestic outings this season.
Last term, BVB scored plenty of goals, but their defense often let the team down. But this season, Dortmund has been outstanding at both ends of the pitch.
Club Brugge vs. Borussia Dortmund Pick
Borussia Dortmund to Win1.66
Haaland missed Saturday’s game with a suspected injury, and it remains unclear whether he will be fit to face Brugge. But even if the star striker is sidelined on Wednesday, Dortmund still has more than enough attacking firepower to get the job done.
With Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna, Thorgan Hazard, and Marco Reus all available for selection, I can’t help but fear the worst for Club.
