Chinese Super League Predictions and Best Bets – September 8, 2020

| September 7, 2020 6:14 am PDT

All eyes will be on the ever-changing Group A standings in the Chinese Super League on Tuesday, with the bottom two teams – Guangzhou R&F and Henan Jianye – going head-to-head in the early kick off.

A rejuvenated Dalian Pro is finally beginning to move away from the foot of the table, but second-place Jiangsu Suning will be aiming to prevent the Blue Hawk’s from extending their unbeaten run to four games.

Here is the Chinese Super League schedule for Tuesday, September 8.

  • Guangzhou R&F vs. Henan Jianye
  • Dalian Pro vs. Jiangsu Suning

Following a torrid start to 2020, Dalian could find themselves in the top half of the group if results go their way on Tuesday. Still, Jiangsu would move to within two points of group-leader Guangzhou Evergrande with a win.

The results of Tuesday’s matchups are likely to have big ramifications and both ends of Group A. Keep reading to see my Chinese Super League predictions for September 8, and don’t forget to check out my value betting picks below.

Guangzhou R&F to Beat Henan Jianye

When Guangzhou R&F took just a single point from their opening four games this year, I feared the worst for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side. But back-to-back victories over Dalian Pro and Shanghai Shenhua seemed to eradicate any relegation fears the club may have had.

However, three straight defeats have swiftly rekindled those fears. Following a 5-1 thrashing to Shandong Luneng on Matchday 7, R&F suffered a loss to Shenzhen before going down 2-1 to rival Evergrande last time out.

Not only are the Blue Lions the lowest scorers in Group A, but they also have the worst defensive record in the division. Considering those unwanted statistics, it’s crazy that Henan actually sits below R&F in the standings.

The Red Devils have only managed to win one of their nine games this year, with their sole victory coming on Matchday 4. Since then, one draw and four defeats have left the club rooted to the bottom of the table.

In reality, Henan hasn’t even come close to getting anything from their recent outings. Wang Baoshan’s side was crushed 5-2 by Jiangsu last weekend before suffering a 4-0 loss at the hands of Dalian on Thursday. Conceding nine goals in two games is definitely a cause for concern.

Both these teams have been in poor form of late, but I feel like R&F has been pretty unfortunate recently. The team showed great spirit against table-topper Evergrande last time out, so I can see the Blue Lions extending Henan’s winless run to six games on Tuesday.

Dalian Pro and Jiangsu Suning to Draw

After failing to win any of their opening seven games in 2020, Dalian heads into this clash on the back of successive victories. Rafael Benitez’s men edged Shandong on Matchday 8 before seeing off Henan with ease last time out.

Salomon Rondon opened the scoring after just two minutes on Friday before racking up a hat-trick of assists. The Venezuelan is arguably the Super League’s in-form player right now, with six goals and four assists in nine appearances this term.

Having said that, Dalian’s defense must also take some for the credit for the club’s recent resurgence. Yes, the Blue Hawks may have scored five goals in their previous two outings. But let’s not forget that they also kept two clean sheets in the process.

Still, Dalian’s hot streak could easily come to an end on Tuesday. Jiangsu has only lost two of their nine Super League games this year, and consecutive victories over Henan (5-2) and Shandong (1-0) have seen the Nanjing club cement second place in Group A.

While Dalian has relied heavily on Rondon, it’s fair to say that Jiangsu’s success has been built on a real team effort. Overseas imports Eder (6 goals, 3 assists), Alex Teixeira (4 goals, 3 assists), and Ivan Santini (4 goals, 1 assists) have notched up an impressive 21 goal involvements between them, while homegrown stars Xi Wu and Pengfei Xie have also chipped in.

The momentum is with Dalian at the moment, but Jiangsu is second in the standings for a reason. It’s difficult to imagine either side losing this game, so I think the draw is the most likely outcome.

Chinese Super League Betting Picks for Tuesday, September 8

I have scoured the top-rated online soccer betting sites and found a couple of great picks for Tuesday’s Chinese Super League games. I share my thoughts behind each pick below.

  • Guangzhou R&F vs. Henan Jianye – Both Teams to Score (1.70)

The bookies’ odds for this game suggest that this will be close. R&F is the marginal favorite at 2.40, and you can get odds of 2.60 for the Henan win. I predicted that the home side will edge it, although I wouldn’t like to put my money on it.

Given the dismal defensive records of these two sides, I’m going with both teams to score here. Both teams have scored in three of R&F’s previous four outings, while seven of Henan’s nine games this year have seen both teams hit the target.

  • Dalian Pro vs. Jiangsu Suning – Over 2.5 Goals (1.80)

With Jiangsu (1.91) sitting eight points ahead of Dalian (3.40) in the table, it’s no real surprise to see the away side as the favorite to win this game. However, Dalian’s recent upturn in form makes me think that going with the outright markets isn’t the best idea here.

Instead, I’m going with over 2.5 goals, as both sides have been in fine goalscoring form of late. Three of Dalian’s last four games have produced three or more goals, and it’s important to remember that Jiangsu is the second-highest scorer in the division.
