Chinese Super League Predictions and Betting Picks – August 31, 2020
It’s top vs. bottom in Group B on Monday as unbeaten Shanghai SIPG hosts winless Tianjin TEDA. Of course, this is a huge mismatch. But the other Chinese Super League game on August 31 destined to be a much closer encounter, with fourth-place Hebei China Fortune visiting fifth-place Shijiazhuang Ever Bright.
Here is Monday’s Chinese Super League schedule.
- Shijiazhuang Ever Bright vs. Hebei China Fortune
- Shanghai SIPG vs. Tianjin TEDA
Hebei will be aiming to secure their fourth straight win on Monday, while Shijiazhuang has failed to win any of their previous outings. At the top of Group B, SIPG is looking to extend their three-point lead over Beijing Guoan. At the other end of the standings, Tianjin is already six points adrift.
In this post, I provide my predictions for both of Monday’s games in China’s top division. I also share my value Super League betting picks for August 31. Let’s get right into it!
Hebei China Fortune to Beat Shijiazhuang Ever Bright
Things were looking bad for Hebei after the team only managed to pick up two points from their opening four games this season. Draws with Shijiazhuang and Chongqing Lifan just about kept the Langfang club afloat, but heavy defeats to SIPG (4-0) and Beijing Guoan (3-1) left Hebei languishing in the bottom half of Group B.
Fast-forward to today, and Xie Feng’s side is in a far better position. Three straight victories have propelled the club into the top four, and Hebei now holds an impressive four-point lead over fifth place. Feng’s men have netted a combined total of seven goals across their previous three outings, and they have only conceded two goals along the way.
At the same time, Shijiazhuang has been moving in the opposite direction. The newly-promoted side started well, losing just one of their opening five games. But a series of draws have prevented Ever Bright from making an impact on Group B.
Shijiazhuang has tied four of their seven games this year, and while that isn’t a poor record for a team that was playing in the second division last season, Afshin Ghotbi’s men can’t be expected to break into the top four if they carry on the way they are going.
I’m expecting Hebei to extend their winning streak to four games on Monday.
Shanghai SIPG to Beat Tianjin TEDA
This game could get ugly for Tianjin. The Tigers have lost six of their seven games this season, while one draw sees them sitting with just a single point to their name. In contrast, SIPG is three points clear at the top of Group B having clinched five wins so far in 2020.
Furthermore, the Red Eagles are yet to taste defeat this year. Not only have they beaten five of their seven opponents in the division, but they have also drawn with the other two. Vitor Pereira’s side sent out a big message by seeing off their nearest challenger Beijing Guoan on Matchday 6, and the team follow up the statement win with a 3-0 victory over Chongqing last week.
Former EPL stars Marko Arnautovic and Oscar both scored in the win against Chongqing, taking their tallies for the season to five and four respectively. And with winger Ricardo Lopes (four goals in seven appearances) also in red-hot form, SIPG’s forward line is looking frightening at the moment.
Tianjin drew with Chongqing on Matchday 2, but the team has suffered five consecutive defeats since then. Needless to say, the Tigers’ losing streak looks set to continue on Monday.
Chinese Super League Betting Picks for Monday, August 31
Now that my predictions are out of the way, let’s get stuck in my betting picks for Monday’s Chinese Super League action.
Shijiazhuang Ever Bright vs. Hebei China Fortune
Hebei China Fortune to Win2.63
The bookies clear believe there is very little between these sides. Shijiazhuang (2.40) is the marginal favorite, with Hebei the outsider (2.63). However, I’m confident that the away side will come out on top, especially when you consider that Hebei is currently on a three-game winning run.
Shijiazhuang has only managed one win all season, while four draws and two defeats have left the home side sitting four points behind Monday’s visitor. Given that Hebei has won their previous three outings, I think the price for the away win in this matchup is extremely generous.
Shanghai SIPG vs. Tianjin TEDA
Shanghai SIPG to Win and Over 3.5 Goals2.30
Not only is this game top against bottom, but it’s also the division’s top scorers against the team with the poorest defensive record. It goes without saying that SIPG (1.17) is the favorite to win, while the odds for the Tianjin win (10.00) underline their inferiority.
Given the contrasting records of these teams, I can see SIPG racking up a high-scoring victory here. For that reason, I suggest adding the over 3.5 goals market onto the home win. Adding the over 2.5 goals market only boosts the price to 1.57, but going one goal higher significantly enhances the odds.
