Sky vs. Mystics WNBA Prediction – Wednesday, June 8, 2022

| June 8, 2022 7:11 am PDT

The Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics will face off for the third time in the 2022 season. Washington had a great start to the season, but Chicago enters Wednesday’s matchup on a three-game win streak.

Chicago is coming off a nine-point victory over Washington on Sunday. The Sky hosted that matchup, so perhaps we’ll see a different outcome with the game shifting to Washington. Is that enough to make the Mystics the favorite?

Is there a clear favorite in Wednesday’s matchup? Let’s check out the odds for the Sky vs. Mystics.

Sky vs. Mystics Odds for June 8th

Sportsbook Chicago Sky Washington Mystics Bonus Offered
Bovada (+105) (-125) 50% up to $250
BetOnline (+105) (-125) 60% up to $1,000
BetUS (+105) (-125) 125% up to $2,500
MyBookie (+105) (-125) 100% up to $1,000

Surprisingly, the Washington Mystics open as the favorite. I would’ve expected the Chicago Sky to hold that honor after their recent win streak.

Chicago had a rough start to the season, going 2-6 against the spread. However, they’ve won back-to-back games as a five-point favorite. That includes a home victory over Washington.

Washington has gone in the opposite direction. They covered in eight of their first ten games but haven’t covered in back-to-back games. Can they turn things around at home?

The Mystics have been a low-scoring team. Sunday’s game against the Sky was only the second time in 12 games they went over their point total. Chicago has also favored the under, holding a 3-6-1 mark.

Chicago acquired Julie Allemand ahead of the 2022 season, but she has yet to play. Allemand has been playing overseas, but it sounds like she’ll return for Chicago’s road trip. She could give the Sky’s offense a big boost.

Sky vs. Mystics Breakdown

The Chicago Sky won the 2021 WNBA Finals, but they didn’t play like a defending champion early in the season. Chicago started 4-3, with losses to the Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm.

Meanwhile, the Washington Mystics started 5-1, earning an impressive victory over the Las Vegas Aces. The latest 2022 WNBA Finals odds have them among the top contenders. However, we’ve seen each team move in a different direction.

Check out their record since those points in the season.

  • Chicago Sky: 3-0
  • Washington Mystics: 2-4

It’s fair to wonder if the Mystics benefitted from an easy schedule. The Aces are the only contender they played in the first six games. Since then, they played Chicago twice and the Connecticut Sun.

Chicago’s defense has looked much better lately, allowing 72.3 points per game in their three-game win streak. They’re the only team ranking top four in scoring and points allowed.

The Sky haven’t had an issue in their victories over the Mystics. No one had a big scoring performance in either game, but Candace Parker made an all-around impact.

@ Mystics (May 22) Vs. Mystics (June 5)
Points 16 12
Rebounds 13 13
Assists 10 6
Field Goal Shooting 7-13 4-9

Washington will have to limit Parker if they want to score their first victory over Chicago. The Mystics scored 82 points in their last game against the Sky despite playing without Elena Della Donne. Not to mention, Ariel Atkins had a season-low seven points.

Offense has been the issue in this recent skid. Washington has failed to score 75 points in four of their last six games. They’ve allowed the second-fewest points, but they’ll need help from their offense.

Della Donne should be back for Wednesday’s matchup. That should give Washington a significant boost as they aim for a victory.

Sky vs. Mystics Game Props

  • Mystics Over 38.5 First Half Points (-115)
  • Under 155.5 Points (-110)
  • Sky Under 77.5 Points (-120)

Can we earn extra cash on the Chicago Sky vs. Washington Mystics matchup? Let’s examine my favorite game props.

Lately, we’ve seen Washington have a few slow starts. It was an especially slow start against the New York Liberty, as they only scored 28 first-half points. However, they’ve been right on their number recently.

They only scored 34 first-half points in their last game, but that came on the heels of three straight games with 34+ first-half points. The Mystics scored 42 points in their home matchup with the Sky. A big start would go a long way towards defeating the Sky.

This matchup opens with a low point total, but we’ve seen both teams excel on the defensive end. Their last matchup featured 173 points, but check out their three games before that.

Chicago Sky Washington Mystics
159 points (Vs. Aces) 150 points (@ Sun)
143 points (Vs. Mercury) 162 points (@ Fever)
138 points (@ Dream) 144 (Vs. Liberty)

I expect a better performance from Washington’s offense, but will it be enough to push this game over 155.5 points? An 80-75 game would satisfy this prop.

I’m taking the under in this matchup, so it only makes sense to take the Sky going under 77.5 points. Chicago has looked much better lately, but that revolves around their defense. We haven’t seen their offense produce.

The Sky exploded for 91 points against the Mystics. Before that, they had three straight games with 76 points or fewer. Now, they’ll face a Mystics team that has allowed the second-fewest points. Washington should be able to hold their offense in check.

Sky vs. Mystics Pick

My Pick: Mystics to Win (-125)Bet on the Mystics at Bovada

The Chicago Sky have been the better team lately, and they’ve had the Washington Mystics’ number. Ultimately, I like the value of Washington at home.

Washington has lost to Chicago twice, including on Sunday. They know what they need to work on to score a victory. Elena Della Donne’s return and a better performance from Ariel Atkins should go a long way towards the Mystics scoring a victory.
