Chicago Fire vs. Sporting Kansas City – MLS, October 17, 2020
Sporting Kansas City claimed a 1-0 victory over Chicago Fire at Children’s Mercy Park just last week, but the two sides go head-to-head again this weekend.
This time around, Chicago welcomes Sporting KC to Soldier Field on Saturday, October 17. SKC currently holds a ten-point lead over the Fire in the overall standings, although the Wizards’ three-game winning streak was brought to an end by Dallas on Wednesday.

Chicago Fire vs. Sporting Kansas City Odds
Despite SKC’s obvious advantage over Chicago, 10bet clearly thinks that home advantage will favor the Fire on Saturday. However, the high odds for both the home and away win suggest that this will be a competitive battle.
Is the draw worth considering? Let’s take a closer look at the teams.
Chicago Fire vs. Sporting Kansas City Preview
Chicago may be languishing at the bottom end of the Eastern Conference, but Raphael Wicky’s men have impressed in recent weeks. They have only lost one of their last five outings, with three victories putting the team within touching distance of a play-off qualification place.
The Fire’s revival kicked off with two big clean-sheet wins. After thrashing Houston Dynamo 4-0, Chicago beat Atlanta United 2-0. A draw and a defeat followed, although Wicky’s side returned to winning ways last time out with a 2-1 victory over DC United.
The Illinois club is now seven points clear of bottom-club DC and level with tenth-place Atlanta on 19 points. An automatic play-off spot may be out of reach, but with four qualifying places up for grabs, the Fire will be confident of sneaking into the final series if the positive results continue to come.
On the flip side, Sporting KC is almost guaranteed a spot in the play-offs. Peter Vermes’ side sites third in the Western Conference – five points clear of fourth-place LAFC and just a single point behind frontrunners Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.
With Seattle and Portland both losing their previous games, the Wizards had the chance to go top of the table on Wednesday. However, despite creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities at Toyota Stadium, FC Dallas ended SKC’s three-game winning streak.
Victories over Houston, Chicago, and Nashville saw Vermes’ men make a perfect start to October. But the team suffered a minor setback last time out. Still, SKC possesses more than enough quality to overcome the Fire and return to winning ways on Saturday.
Chicago Fire vs. Sporting Kansas City Betting Pick
Sporting Kansas City to Win2.80
Chicago has enjoyed an upturn in form of late, but it is important to remember how consistent Sporting KC has been throughout 2020. The Fire has only picked up five wins this year, while the Wizards have claimed nine victories.
I’m expecting Chicago to put up a decent fight on Saturday, but I’m confident that SKC will come away from Soldier Field with the points. With Vermes’ men playing away from home in this fixture, the odds for the SKC win look very appealing.
