Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution – MLS, September 6, 2020

| September 4, 2020 10:23 am PDT

Chicago and New England have both won two of their nine games this year, but the Revs find themselves five places below the Fire in the Eastern Conference. Bruce Arena’s side has managed to pick up five draws along the way, while Chicago has suffered five defeats.

The two teams clash at Soldier Field on Sunday, September 6, with the Fire aiming to move level with New England on 11 points. In this betting preview, I look at the odds before sharing my Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution prediction and pick.

Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution Odds

Chicago Fire to Win 2.30
The Draw 3.50
New England Revolution to Win 2.80

Chicago comes into this game as the favorite, although the online sportsbooks clearly don’t think there is too much separating these two sides at the moment. At first glance, the price for the away win stands out to me. After all, New England has enjoyed far better form than Chicago in recent weeks.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution Preview

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to predict the outcome of a Chicago Fire game. The Illinois club returned to regular-season action with a humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Columbus Crew before bouncing straight back with a 3-0 win of their own.

But after seeing off FC Cincinnati, Raphael Wicky’s side conceded three goals again. New York City defeated the Fire with ease last weekend, although a goalless draw with Cincinnati last time out proves that the team is capable of defending.

Taking their recent results into consideration, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that Chicago has the worst defensive record in the Eastern Conference.

Meanwhile, I have been impressed with New England’s quiet rise up the standings. The Revs were unbeaten in their first three games after the MLS is Back Tournament, defeating DC United and drawing with Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls.

New England’s notable run came to an end against New York City in midweek, but I think Bruce Arena’s men can count themselves pretty unfortunate to have lost that game. The Revs created countless goalscoring opportunities, yet they failed to make the most of their chances.

There is nothing spectacular about the way New England has gone about their business since the regular season resumed. But following a below-par showing in Florida, the Greater Boston club is definitely moving in the right direction.

Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution Prediction and Pick

  • New England Revolution to Win

To say that Chicago has been unpredictable this year would be a massive understatement. The Fire has sealed some decent wins, but recent heavy defeats to Columbus and NYC suggest that Wicky’s men will struggle to deal with New England. The Revs have only lost two of their nine games this season, so I’m backing the away side come away with all three points.
