Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution – MLS, September 22, 2021

A mammoth 33 points separate first-place New England and twelfth-place Chicago as the two sides prepare to face off at Soldier Field on Wednesday, September 22.
Having lost just one of their previous 13 matches, the Revs find themselves 15 points clear at the Eastern Conference summit. At the opposite end of the standings, the Fire sit five points off the bottom after losing five of their last six games.
In this betting preview, I look at the MLS odds before analyzing both teams. I then share my Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution prediction before wrapping things up with a pick for Wednesday’s clash.
Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution Odds
It is no real surprise that all the best online MLS sportsbooks view Chicago as the underdog here. What is a surprise, however, is the hugely attractive price for the New England win.
Although the Fire have the home-field advantage on Wednesday, there is absolutely no denying that New England should win this match. I mean, the gulf in quality between the two sides is vast at the moment.
Anyway, let’s take a closer look at the teams before settling on a Chicago Fire vs. New England prediction and pick.
Why Chicago Could Struggle to Compete
Not so long ago, things were looking up for Chicago. They even managed to notch a four-game unbeaten streak last month, picking up two wins and two draws in the process.
Since then, however, the Illinois outfit has been nothing short of dreadful.
Raphael Wicky’s men have lost five of their previous six outings, taking just three points from a possible 18 in that time. Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to CF Montreal was their third straight loss – and their fourteenth defeat in 25 MLS matches this year.
With high-flying New England up next for Wicky’s men, a fourth successive loss looks almost inevitable.
Why the Revs Should Claim All Three Points
The Revs were held to a 1-1 draw by Columbus last time out, but when you look at the statistics from the game, it is difficult to figure out how they didn’t beat the Crew.
New England dominated the entire match, enjoying 62% possession on home soil. They even managed to rack up a whopping 33 shots – seven of which were on target – but could not find a winning goal.
Still, Bruce Arena and his players won’t be too disappointed. After all, they still sit 15 points clear of second-place Nashville in the East – and 33 points ahead of Chicago!
Adam Buksa scored again last time out, notching his eleventh MLS goal of the campaign. With Gustavo Bou (12 goals, 3 assists) alongside him in attack, New England’s forward line is frightening.
When you consider the bigger picture, the Revs have won 17 of their 26 matches this year, recording five draws and four losses in the process. Good luck, Chicago!
Prediction for Chicago Fire vs. New England
Having netted 48 goals this season (1.8 goals per game), the Revs are the highest scorers in the East by a considerable margin. On the flip side, the Fire are the joint-lowest scorers in the division, with just 24 goals to their name (0.9 goals per game).
Considering those stats, it is difficult to imagine the home team getting anything from this match. While New England is flying high at the top of the standings, Chicago is in a real mess at the bottom.
My Chicago Fire vs. New England Betting Pick
-
New England Revolution to Win2.10
In my eyes, this is an unmissable chance to double your money – so I recommend jumping on the tasty price for the away win before the bookies change their mind.
The Revs have been operating on a totally different level to the Fire throughout the campaign. If everything goes to plan on Wednesday, Arena’s men should seal a comfortable road victory.
