Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Prediction for Sunday Night Football

| December 9, 2021 9:55 am PDT

The Bears and Packers historic rivalry will feature another game on Sunday Night Football this week. For the last several years, the Packers have dominated their head to head games. Their record against the Bears since 2009 is an incredible 19-3.

Throughout the history of the Bears and Packers rivalry, both teams haven’t really been competitive at the right times. The Bears dominated the Packers in the early years, but the Packers have gotten the best of them recently and took over the series lead.

The series score is currently in favor of the Packers with a 102-95-6 record since their first game all the way back in 1921. Will they continue their recent dominance over the Bears this week? Do the Bears even have a chance to win this one or cover their spread?

Odds for Bears vs. Packers

Chicago Bears +12.5-117
Green Bay Packers -12.5-103
Over 43-110
Under 43-110

You can see that there is serious blowout potential for this game already. I am not sure why this game wasn’t flexed out of Sunday Night Football for something like Bills vs. Buccaneers, but here we are.

I will say that the over/under total is on the lower end at 43, which makes a 12.5 point spread “easier” to cover for Bears bettors. I will also say that I am not dying to take the Bears because there are no really good signs that they can win this game.

If you want these exact odds, you can head over to BetOnline to place your bets. Let’s break down why each team can win this game and my prediction for Sunday Night Football this week.

Why the Bears Will Win

This one is going to be a long shot, but is it possible? They are not only 12.5 point underdogs, but they are also +515 for their moneyline as well. That would be a huge payday if the Bears were able to somehow pull off this massive upset.

In the case that the Bears have a shot to win this game, they are going to need some miracles. Justin Fields is back in the starting lineup after he was out with a ribs injury. Andy Dalton has started the last one and a half games for him, barely beating the Lions and losing to the Cardinals.

Justin Fields has serious potential in the NFL and he can show some flashiness under the lights. He has big play potential with his arm and his legs, and he just might make some plays against the Packers.

Fields and Darnell Mooney are a great connection and should be the main focus of the Bears future passing game. Allen Robinson has been banged up this season, but he should have a chance to play in this game as well.

Fields is not the only tough runner for the Bears, as David Montgomery is a very underrated back in the league. Montgomery has been one of the few players to play well against the Packers in the past two games against them.

Montgomery rushed for 103 yards and added 40 receiving yards with a touchdown in 2020. In their 2021 game (January), Montgomery rushed for 69 yards, a touchdown, and added another 63 yards receiving.

Fields, Montgomery, Mooney, and Robinson need to play at a high level in order for the Bears to stay in this game. The defense lost Khalil Mack for the rest of the season and other impact players have missed a lot of time this year as well.

It is a long shot for the Bears to win this one and a 12.5 spread is a bit tricky. If they can somehow hold the Packers offense to a low scoring outing, maybe they can pull off the upset.

Why the Packers Will Win

Aaron Rodgers is not wrong when he said he owns the Bears.

This game will also be in Green Bay, where the Packers have the best record against the spread in the NFL since 2006. Their 79-52-4 record ATS since 2009 is very impressive and they have a chance to hit the 80 win mark in this game.

Despite losing some key players this season to long injuries, the Packers have remained one of the best teams in the NFL. They are currently 9-3 on the year and are looking for their 10th win this week. They are going to be in contention for the NFC’s number one seed by the end of the year.

The Packers offense features the same couple faces that have been there for a while. Aaron Rodgers is obviously running the offense, while Davante Adams and Aaron Jones are a couple of the best offensive weapons across the league.

Their defense has actually been a lot better this year as well despite missing Jaire Alexander and Za’Darius Smith for the majority of this season. They have allowed the 5th lowest amount of points in the NFL this season at just 20.2 per game.

I actually think a lot of the credit should go to the Packers offense in that case. The Packers defense has been solid, but they have also had the least amount of drives against them in the entire NFL (119). They also have more field to work with thanks to the offense. Their average starting field position is the 26.9 yard line, which ranks 7th best in the NFL.

The Packers offense is so good that they are able to keep the other team’s offense off the field, as well as score points. That is a masterful level of football and not many teams, if any, can pull that off like the Packers. This game with the Bears can just be another dominating victory as it might also be Aaron Rodgers last year in Green Bay.

My Prediction for Bears vs. Packers on SNF

I can’t find myself to take the Bears in this one. Their best player (Khalil Mack) is not going to even be playing. I don’t think the Bears could even win with him in their lineup. The Packers should be able to win this game rather easily and I would rather rely on them.

The Packers are rolling and the Bears would rather look towards their future than this game. Matt Nagy has been rumored to be on the hot seat for quite some time now, but this game could put a stamp on it.
