Chelsea vs. Porto – Champions League, April 13, 2021

Chelsea already has one foot in the UCL semi-finals after an impressive 2-0 victory over Porto last week, but Thomas Tuchel will know that his side has only completed half of the job so far.
Having seen off Juventus in the previous round, the Portuguese champions will be confident of causing Chelsea problems and mounting another comeback against one of Europe’s top clubs.
Below, I assess the Champions League odds before sharing Chelsea vs. Porto prediction and pick.
Odds for Chelsea vs. Porto (Second Leg)
As you can see, the Blues head into the second leg as heavy favorites, leaving the Dragons as rank outsiders. In my eyes, the leading online sports betting sites have priced this one perfectly.
Sergio Conceicao’s men have shown they can compete with the best teams on the continent, but let’s not forget that Chelsea completely outclassed Porto in the first leg.
I assess both sides’ chances below.
Chelsea vs. Porto – Second Leg Preview
In last week’s dominant display, Chelsea only registered three shots on target, with goals from Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell sealing the deal. But it always felt as though the Blues were in full control – and the possession stats back that up.
Tuchel’s men enjoyed 61% of the ball in the first leg and finished the match with 539 passes to Porto’s 343.
The Londoners extended their unbeaten away record under Tuchel last time out, crushing Crystal Palace 4-1 in the EPL. Thanks in large part to a Christian Pulisic double, Chelsea has picked up four wins, and two draws on the road since Tuchel took charge.
In fact, the Blues have only lost one of their 17 games in all competitions since the German arrived at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel seems to have fixed the team’s defensive frailties – and now the goals are starting to flow.
Having kept three consecutive clean sheets in the Champions League, one thing is certain – Chelsea will be tough to break down on Tuesday.
Porto actually created multiple opportunities in the first leg, racking up 12 shots – five of which hit the target – on Edouard Mendy’s goal. But Chelsea’s defense stood firm.
The Dragons managed to score four goals against Juventus in the Round of 16, securing a 2-1 home win before losing 3-2 in Turin. However, they struggled to outsmart Chelsea’s solid backline last week.
Conceicao’s men are currently enjoying a 20-match unbeaten streak in the Portuguese top-flight, with Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Tondela handing them a fifth consecutive domestic win.
The Portuguese champions must now carry their domestic form onto the European stage, although that is easier said than done.
Sergio Oliveira’s return (19 goals, 7 assists) and Mehdi Taremi (16 goals, 13 assists) certainly boosted Porto. They have contributed a whopping 47 goals involvements between them this season – and they will need to add to their tallies on Tuesday.
My Chelsea vs. Porto Prediction and Pick
-
Chelsea to Win1.80
Ultimately, the onus is on Porto here. The Portuguese champions have no choice but to go for broke in the second leg, but their attacking approach will almost certainly leave defensive gaps for Chelsea to exploit.
Given that you can almost double your money by backing the English side, the Blues win is my Chelsea vs. Porto betting pick. I expect Chelsea to put in another disciplined display and hit the Dragons on the counter-attack.
