Chelsea vs. Liverpool Betting Preview – EPL, September 20, 2020

This is undoubtedly the game of the weekend in the EPL as Chelsea faces a major test of its credentials as a Champions League side-elect, with the visit of reigning champions Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard seems to get quite riled by Jurgen Klopp’s criticism of the London club, so this game could have a real edge to it.

Liverpool didn’t lose a game last season until it was virtually assured of the league title – and had only dropped points in one game before that – so BetOnline making it favorite to win this one is not a massive surprise. But Chelsea has invested heavily in an attempt to challenge for the title itself this year and will give Jurgen Klopp’s a good game on Sunday.

Match Preview

Brighton away was a very favorable way to begin the new season for Chelsea, as the club looks to improve on the form it showed at the end of the last campaign. Some very big names arrived at Stamford Bridge over the summer and a few of them showed exactly how they can help the club immediately.

Timo Werner started his Chelsea career well against Brighton but was unable to get on the scoresheet. But there won’t be many more games before the Germany international opens his account – and he is likely to give the much-vaunted Liverpool defense a torrid time this weekend.

That defense has already experienced a scare this season as Leeds almost pulled off a great result last weekend before Mo Salah completed an opening day hat-trick to give his side the 4-3 win. Klopp may have been very pleased with his Egyptian striker but he won’t have been as happy with conceding three goals. It took until the 28th game to let in that many in a single game last season.

It is difficult to take a lot from the first day but it does seem as though Liverpool won’t have it all its own way this year – and the Premier League title race will last longer than the few months there was some competition in the 2019/20 season. This will be a good battle between two very good sides.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool Prediction and Pick

  • Chelsea to Win

The good thing for both managers here is that whoever loses will know that there will be another 36 games left in the season to make up for it. Chelsea will be desperate to put one over the champions and prove that it is a force to be reckoned with – and I feel as though that desire will be the main factor behind a home win this weekend.
