Charles Town Races Picks – Thursday, October 15, 2020

| October 14, 2020 3:06 pm PDT

Charles Town Racing offers us a solid nine-race card of starter, allowance, maiden, and claiming matches today.

The first-floor grandstand at Charles Town Races is open to spectators, and the weather forecast for Thursday says you can expect a sunny day and temps n the mid-70s, with a 10% chance of rain, and winds around 11 mph.

Now, let’s get on with my Charles Town Races picks and betting tips for Thursday’s matches.

Picks for Race 4 at Charles Town Races

This is an allowance race for West Virginia-bred three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $27,000.

My money is on the 7/5 morning line favorite in this race—K Town Brass, with veteran jockey Gerald Almodovar in the irons. This four-year-old gelding moneyed six of his nine career starts, winning three.

At 15/1, Martin Man, with Jerry Villegas aboard, is a good value for a show bet. This five-year-old gelding finished in the money 16 of his 26 starts, winning three.

  •  Win: K Town Brass 7/5
  •  Show: Martin Man 15/1

Picks for Race 7 at Charles Town Races

This is a starter allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles for a purse of $17,700.

I like the third-favored (5/1) underdog Charitable Spenny, with Javier Rivera aboard, for the win. This four-year-old gelding moneyed 11 of his 19 career starts, winning six—and his record for 2020 is even more impressive: Seven money finishes in nine starts, with five of those wins. Rivera may not be quite the jockey (yet) that Arnaldo Bocachica (aboard the morning line favorite) is, but his mount is much more a competitor than the favorite.

At 15/1, The Iron Bank, with Fredy Peltroche aboard, has a good shot at finishing in the money. This seven-year-old gelding finished in the money 34 of his 66 career starts, winning seven of them. Show bet only.

  •  Win: Charitable Spenny 5/1
  •  Show: The Iron Bank 15/1

Pick for Race 8 at Charles Town Races

This is an allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $25,000.

This could be a tight race, but I’m sticking with the 6/5 favorite—Liam’s Lookout, with top jockey Arnaldo Bocachica in the irons. This three-year-old filly finished in the money for three of her six career starts, winning one.

I see no longer-odds entries in this race that might finish up in the paycheck line.

  •  Win: Liam’s Lookout 6/5
