Charles Town Races Picks – Thursday, March 4, 2021

Charles Town Races bring us eight mostly claiming races sprinkled with a handful of maiden and allowance matches for our Thursday wagering and entertainment.
The grandstand at Charles Town Races is open to spectators, and those who attend the Thursday races can expect a partly cloudy day with highs in the mid-40s and winds at a brisk 18 mph.
Incidentally, while I review Charles Town’s three top races for Thursday here, you can find their entire eight-race card — including entries, jockeys, morning line odds, and betting options — at one of our recommended online racebooks.
Read on for my Charles Town Races picks and betting tips for Thursday, March 4, 2021.
Pick for Race 5 at Charles Town Races
This is a maiden claiming race for fillies and mares between three and six years old, running a distance of 4-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $17,000.
My money is on the 5/2 morning line favorite — Rockin Anna Rollin, ridden by Arnaldo Bocachica. This four-year-old filly finished in the money three of her seven career starts, and her speed figures compare very favorably to the rest of this field.
Ignore that tempting 50/1 longshot. There are no long-odds entries in this race likely to cross the finish line in time for payday, so save your long-money for later.
- Win: Rockin Anna Rollin 5/2
Picks for Race 6 at Charles Town Races
This is an allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $29,000.
I like the second-favored (2/1) entry in this race — Power Forward, with Arnaldo Bocachica aboard. This four-year-old filly moneyed six of her ten career starts, winning five.
There are two entries in this race at 15/1, but I only see one of them with a solid enough chance to finish in the money and making a show bet worth the risk — Cameron Street, with Arius Thorpe in the irons. This six-year-old mare moneyed 18 of her 35 career starts, winning six of them.
- Win: Power Forward 2/1
- Show: Cameron Street 15/1
Pick for Race 7 at Charles Town Races
This is an allowance race for West Virginia-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $29,000.
I like one of the fourth-favored entries (there are two at 5/1) in this race — Strong Heart, ridden by Denis Araujo. This four-year-old gelding moneyed eight of his nine career starts, winning two.
As far as value show wagers go, I don’t see any long-odds entries in this run that warrant the risk of a show wager. So we save money.
- Win: Strong Heart 5/1
