Charles Town Races Picks – Wednesday, December 2, 2020

| December 1, 2020 12:35 pm PDT

Wednesday’s schedule of thoroughbred competition at Charles Town Races brings us eight maiden, claiming, and allowance races for Wednesday.

Remember that spectators are welcome at Charles Town Races, so if you plan to attend, expect sunny skies, highs in the mid-40s, and winds a chilly 16 mph.

Read on for my Charles Town Races picks and tips for Wednesday’s matches.

Pick for Race 5 at Charles Town Races

This is a maiden special weight race for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares three, four, five, and six years old running a distance of 4-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $27,000.

I’m buying a win ticket for the morning line’s third-favored (5/1) Cheese Louise, with veteran jockey Arnaldo Bocachica in the irons. This three-year-old filly moneyed eight of her ten career starts. If that isn’t enough to convince you, bear in mind that Bocachica — already a world-class jockey — is having a very good year.

None of the longer-odds entries in this field have a realistic shot of finishing in the money.

  • Win: Cheese Louise 5/1

Pick for Race 6 at Charles Town Races

This is an allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 4-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $28,000.

I have to agree with the morning line on this one and buy a win ticket on the 2/1 favorite in this race — Sonde of Music, with Antonio Lopez aboard. This six-year-old mare finished in the money six of her seven career starts, winning four.

The longest odds in this six-horse race are 10/1, and I don’t see a happy ending at the finish line for that horse.

  • Win: Sonde of Music 2/1

Picks for Race 7 at Charles Town Races

This is an allowance race for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $28,000.

I have to agree with the morning line here, as well, so I’m betting on the 5/2 favorite — Our Bad Girl, ridden by Jose Montano. This five-year-old mare moneyed 22 of her 30 career starts, winning seven, which put her in the statistical lead in this field.

At 10/1, Miss Wave, with Reshawn Latchman in the irons, is a value show wager here. This three-year-old filly finished in the money six of her seven starts, winning one.

  • Win: Our Bad Girl 5/2
  • Show: Miss Wave 10/1
