Los Angeles Chargers vs. Las Vegas Raiders – NFL Week 15, 2020
The Chargers head to the desert to take on the Raiders at the Allegiant Stadium in this all AFC Western Conference match up.
Both teams have a recent negative record, having won two of their last five games.
The head to head record makes for interesting reading. If you go back to 2013, you see that the Chargers went on to win three in a row against the Raiders. From 2015 the Raiders went on to win four in a row against the Chargers.
Fast forward to 2017, and again the Chargers went on to win three in a row, and more recently, the Raiders have won the last three. Will they continue the pattern and win this one?
Chargers vs. Raiders Odds
The Raiders are probably rightful favorites given their league position and the fact that they have won the last three against the Chargers and they have home-field advantage.
The Chargers sit at the foot of the AFC West table, and their hopes of reaching the playoffs have faded. Their short term goal must be to catch the Bronco’s and avoid collecting the wooden spoon.
After a blowout against the Patriots, the Chargers bounced back with a close fought win against the Falcons. They trailed 17-10 at halftime and rallied to pick up a narrow victory.
They have only won one of their six games on the road and have lost their last five in a row. They have had a tough run, having had to travel to the Bills, Dolphins, Saints, and Buccaneers.
They have struggled offensively, only averaging 22 points per game. They are averaging just short of 400 yards gained per week, so it’s evident that they aren’t clinical enough.
Defensively they have been criticized for not pressing teams enough, which is backed up by their lack of interceptions and forced fumbles this year. However, they have by far more tackles made than any other side in the NFL this season, so this does contradict this statement.
It’s do or die time for the Raiders as they have little room for failure here. They had a damaging 44-27 defeat to the Colts last week, which is increasing the pressure on them. It was a very poor performance where they lost all four quarters.
They are struggling at present having lost three of their last four games, with their only victory being a narrow one against the winless New York Jets.
They have been poor at home so far, losing four of their six games in Las Vegas. Like the Chargers, they too have had some hard fixtures at home having faced the Colts, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Bills, and they beat the Saints.
There has been plenty of action at the Allegiant Stadium this season, with only one game seeing under 50 points, and that game had 49!
Their biggest problem this year has been stopping their opponents from scoring as they have averaged just over 30 points against them per game.
Like their opponents, they too have not forced many fumbles this year so this could be a standoff(ish) game.
Chargers vs. Raiders Pick
The Raiders recent form is a concern and they were woeful against the Colts last time out. However, I feel they may edge this one just as they did in round nine this year.
They came from behind at half time to pick up a five-point victory, and I believe history could repeat itself here.
