Champions League Betting Picks and Predictions for Tuesday, December 7
We’ve reached the final round of the group stage in this season’s Champions League. All Round 6 games will be played over the course of the next two days, with eight of those scheduled for Tuesday, December 7.
Some of those games have no competitive value, as the teams taking part already know their Champions League fate. However, there are some that will decide which teams will advance to the knockout stage.
Tuesday’s games that belong to this category are the following:
- AC Milan vs. Liverpool
- Porto vs. Atletico Madrid
- Real Madrid vs. Inter
I will now analyze those three games, providing you with all the info you need to make a good betting choice. Speaking of betting, I will also reveal my top picks for Tuesday’s Champions League action.
AC Milan to Beat Liverpool
It wouldn’t be an overstatement to call Liverpool the most impressive soccer team in the world right now. The Reds have been in fabulous form in all the competitions they’re taking part in. Evidence of this is that this team has lost only one game in more than eight months.
Thanks to their superb run, the Reds are in second place in the English Premier League, with just one point off the table leaders, Manchester City. Liverpool has also been superb in the Champions League, with a 5-0 record thus far.
So, why on Earth do I think Liverpool will lose to AC Milan? Because the English team doesn’t care about that game. The thing is that no matter what happens on Tuesday, Liverpool will finish the first part of the Champions League season in the top position in Group B.
This is why the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will rotate the squad and let his key men have a day off. Instead of superstars like Mo Salah and the like, some inexperienced youngsters will be given a chance.
It’s a whole different story for AC Milan, which can finish in any of the remaining three spots. Obviously, Rossoneri would love to finish just behind Liverpool. For that to happen, they need to win.
Unfortunately for the Italians, even that might not be enough. As they have one point fewer than Porto, they also need to see them not winning against Atletico Madrid.
However, even if Atleti lose in Portugal, a win would still bring something good to AC Milan. In that case, they’d finish in the third spot, which is the one that leads straight to the Europa League Round of 32.
Porto and Atletico Madrid to Draw
Ahead of the final round of the group phase, Atletico Madrid is at the very bottom of Group B. What this means is that in order to climb at least one spot up, they need to beat Porto.
Atleti are one point behind Porto, but they have the same number of points as AC Milan. The reason why the Italian team is higher in the table lies in the Champions League tiebreaker rules.
If two teams are tied, their head-to-head record is taken into account. In the case of Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, the record is 1-1, which is why the score difference is the decisive factor. At the moment, Atleti have a goals differential of 4-7; AC Milan’s is 5-7.
The reason why this is important is that simply beating Porto might not be enough for Atleti. If AC Milan beats Liverpool, Atletico Madrid will need a big win over Porto. The question is whether these guys can pull it off in the middle of Portugal?
Atleti weren’t able to do it at home. Their game with Porto at Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium finished in a goalless draw. This time, however, I’m sure it will be different. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of goals.
The reason is that Atletico needs to go all-in, attacking with all of their weapons. This, in turn, is bound to leave room for Porto’s counterattacks, which Atletico’s undermanned defense might not be able to handle.

The Spanish team has huge problems at the back, meaning that it’s almost certain Porto will put at least one away. That said, Atletico’s only option is to try and outscore the hosts. Can they do it?
Even though their manager Diego Simeone is famous for a defensive-minded style of soccer, the fact is that the Spanish champion has plenty of talent in the final third.
Their top scorer this season is Luis Suarez, the former Barcelona striker. Another ex-Barca forward who could destroy Porto on his own is Antoine Griezmann. Then, there’s also Joao Felix, one of the biggest prospects in European soccer.
Real Madrid and Inter to Draw
Both Real Madrid and Inter will play in the knockout stage of the Champions League no matter what happens this week. The only question is which of the two will finish at the top of Group D?
At the moment, Real Madrid is the team that’s occupying that position. Inter is trailing behind by just two points, meaning that nothing but a win would work for the Italian champion. The trouble is that beating Real Madrid is something Inter hasn’t done in a while.
On the bright side for the Italians, Real Madrid will be without its best player, Karim Benzema. The striker who finished in the #4 position in the 2021 Ballon d’Or voting got injured last Saturday.
Benzema picked up a thigh injury in the 16th minute of the game with Real Sociedad. Still, his teammates got the job done, beating the rivals 2-0.
If Benzema-less Los Blancos were able to beat Real Sociedad on the road, can they do the same to Inter at home? They might, although knowing how good Inter players are, a draw seems like a more likely outcome.
Predictions for the Remaining Tuesday’s Games
- PSG to Beat Club Brugge
- Manchester City to Beat RB Leipzig
- Ajax to Beat Sporting
- Dortmund to Beat Besiktas
- Shakhtar Donetsk to Beat Sheriff Tiraspol
I think the favorites should win in all the remaining games. Although winning on Tuesday isn’t going to make big changes for any of those teams, I still believe they will do it. After all, they have much better players than their rivals.
