Picks and Predictions for CFL Games in Week 8

| July 27, 2022 2:55 pm PDT

The 2022 CFL season is moving right along, as we head into Week 8. Certain teams are off to great starts, while others can’t say the same.

No team has been better than the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who are a perfect 7-0 this season. Winnipeg has won each of the last two Grey Cups and is seriously threatening to win their 3rd in a row.

The West Division has two more teams who are a solid 4-1, making them superior to the East Division by a considerable amount.

Let’s take a look at the CFL betting odds for Week 8 on the following sites:

CFL Odds for Week 8

  • Montreal Alouettes +3 (-115) vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats -3 (-105), O/U 49
  • B.C Lions -1.5 (-105) vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders +1.5 (-115), O/U 49
  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers (-112) vs. Calgary Stampeders (-108), O/U 46.5
  • Ottawa Redblacks +5 (-110) vs. Toronto Argonauts -5 (-110), O/U 47.5

Here are the CFL betting odds for each Week 8 game from BetOnline.

The first game of the week is Thursday night, with a showdown between the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Montreal hasn’t been impressive this season with a 2-4 record, while Hamilton hasn’t been much better at 1-5.

Both teams should be looking to take advantage of a beatable opponent, while Hamilton is given the 3-point spread advantage at home.

Next we have the B.C Lions heading to Saskatchewan to take on the Roughriders. The spread is 1.5 points in favor of the Lions, as they 4-1 heading into Week 8, while Saskatchewan is 4-3. Saskatchewan is coming off two straight losses to the Argonauts, while the Lions had a bye in Week 6 and beat the Tiger-Cats in Week 7.

The CFL odds for the Blue Bombers vs. the Stampeders are as close as it gets. Neither team has a spread in their favor, while Winnipeg is just barely favored at -112 odds to win compared to -108 for Calgary.

Winnipeg was also able to beat the Stampeders by 7 two weeks ago, so it’s not a surprise to see them favored.

The Toronto Argonauts being the most favored team of the week is something you should keep in mind when making your Week 8 CFL picks.

They are favored by 5 points over the Ottawa Redblacks. This isn’t much of a surprise, as the Redblacks have yet to win a game this year (0-6), while Toronto (3-2) is at the top of the East Division.

Week 8 CFL Predictions for Who Wins

  • Montreal Alouettes Over Hamilton Tiger-Cats
  • B.C Lions Over Saskatchewan Roughriders
  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers Over Calgary Stampeders
  • Toronto Argonauts Over Ottawa Redblacks

My Week 8 CFL predictions for this week will kick off with a Montreal Alouettes victory. Hamilton has just one win on the year and it was by a mere two points against the Elks, who are one of the worst teams in the league right now.

Montreal has had much tougher competition than Hamilton this year as well and still has a better record than the Tiger-Cats. Not only that, the Alouettes are +5 in point differential on the year, while Hamilton is already at -41.

The Lions’ offense has looked incredible this year, averaging 35.2 points per game this year. Saskatchewan is nearly 10 points below that average at 26.1 points per game. B.C has also held their opponents to fewer points per game than the Roughriders have.

Winnipeg was the only team to beat B.C this year, but most teams are going to lose to Winnipeg more often than not. The Lions look to be a pretty underrated team this season and should be able to beat Saskatchewan this week.

The CFL betting odds are implying that this should be the toughest week of the season so far for the Blue Bombers. They have yet to lose a game, but could the Stampeders be the first team to take them down?

Although I think this should be a close game, I’m giving the edge to Winnipeg. They look incredible yet again this year and just beat the Stampeders by 7 a few weeks ago.

Toronto is the heaviest favorite of the week for a reason. They are coming off two impressive wins against a decent Roughriders squad, and get an even easier opponent this week in the winless Redblacks.

Best CFL Betting Picks for Week 8 (2022)

Montreal Alouettes +3-115
B.C Lions -1.5-105
Winnipeg Blue Bombers to Win-112
Toronto Argonauts -5-110

For my best Week 8 CFL picks, I am going with the Alouettes, Lions, Blue Bombers, and Argonauts to cover their spreads.

The moneyline isn’t out just yet for the games, but I would also be heavily intrigued by the Als moneyline since it will have positive odds. I’m not sure why the Alouettes are looked at as the underdog in this game, but we can take this opportunity to cash on favorable bets.

Neither team is a super appealing bet, which means that betting on the underdog and positive 3-point spread should be the better option for our free CFL picks.

The next of our CFL predictions will be the Lions’ 1.5-point spread over Saskatchewan. Like I said, B.C has looked very impressive this season with their only loss coming against the best team in the league. They score more and allow fewer points on average than the Roughriders, which means they should have the edge here.

It’s hard to say when the Blue Bombers are going to lose their first game, or even if they will lose at all this year. They are +66 in point differential with both sides of the ball working tremendously. I’m surprised that the CFL odds for this game aren’t favoring them by 4-7 points, considering they won by 7 the last time they faced Calgary.

It’s also quite interesting how Toronto is only a 5-point favorite right now when I could see them being closer to 7. Toronto beat Saskatchewan by 6 and 10 over the last two weeks, which is a stronger opponent than Ottawa.
