Central Coast Mariners vs. Western United – A-League, June 5, 2021
Brisbane’s midweek win over Perth saw the Mariners book their spot in the finals without kicking a ball. It’s fair to say that Alen Stajcic’s men have stumbled over the finish line, but they have an opportunity to finish the regular season on a positive note.
Western United visits Central Coast Stadium this Saturday, June 5, having lost each of their previous seven matches. Can the Green & Black upset the A-League odds this weekend?
Keep reading to find my Central Coast Mariners vs. Western United prediction and betting pick.
Mariners vs. Western United Odds
Considering that Mark Rudan’s men head into Saturday’s clash on a dreadful seven-game losing streak, it is hardly surprising that 10bet views Central Coast as the clear favorite to win this one.
Granted, the Mariners have only managed to win three of their last 14 matches. But they have lost just four of their 12 games on home soil this season.
Can the Mariners Flex Their Muscles?
The Yellow & Navy suffered a shock 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Tuesday, handing the Jets their first win in 15 matches. But thankfully, Brisbane beat Perth to ensure that Central Coast will be playing finals soccer this year.
Stajcic’s men won eight of their opening 11 matches, laying the foundations for a successful year. Things haven’t quite gone to plan over the last couple of months, but they still find themselves in a strong position.
Matt Simon (ten goals, three assists) and Alou Kuol (seven goals, two assists) have really caught the eye this season, but guys like Marcos Urena (four goals, three assists) and Daniel De Silva (four goals, three assists) should be given huge credit for their efforts, too.
The returning Oli Bozanic has also been immense, while goalkeeper Mark Birighitti has arguably been one of the A-League’s standout performers in 2021.
Will Western Finish On a High?
What the hell has happened to Western United?
A run of seven wins in 13 matches between February and April saw Rudan’s men solidify their place in the top six.
To make matters worse, the Green & Black have lost the plot in defense. Indeed, they have conceded a combined total of 22 goals across their seven-match losing streak. That’s an average of over three goals per game!
Following high-scoring defeats to Western Sydney (5-0), Perth (3-0), and Wellington (3-0), last month’s 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Melbourne Victory capped off a disastrous run for the club.
It goes without saying that Rudan’s men will be desperate to restore some pride in their final outing of the campaign.
My Top Bet for Mariners vs. Western
When you consider Central Coast’s inconsistency in recent times, the price for the home win is far too low to bother with here. For that reason, the draw is my Central Coast Mariners vs. Western United betting pick.
Rudan’s men gave a good account of themselves last time out, only to suffer a 2-1 defeat to Macarthur. If they can replicate that performance this weekend, they should be able to snatch at least a point.
