Central Coast Mariners vs. Adelaide United – A-League, April 1, 2021

| March 31, 2021 8:41 am PDT

The top two in the A-League meet at Central Coast Stadium on Thursday, April 1, as the Mariners host Adelaide for a crucial clash.

A six-match winning streak has seen the Reds move to within one point of Central Coast. The Mariners have failed to win any of their last games, yet they still find themselves leading the way.

You can find my Central Coast Mariners vs. Adelaide United prediction and betting pick below. But first, let’s take a look at the A-League odds.

Mariners vs. Adelaide Odds

Central Coast Mariners to Win2.10
The Draw3.70
Adelaide United to Win3.20

The top online sportsbooks have clearly taken Central Coast’s recent home form into account when pricing up this matchup. Indeed, the Mariners have only lost two of their eight home games this season, with three wins and two draws coming in the previous five.

Adelaide may have claimed six straight victories, but the bookmakers still view the away side as the outsider to win this one.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Analyzing the Mariners’ Form

There is no denying that Alen Stajcic’s men have hit a bump in the road of late. I mean, having won eight of their opening 11 matches this term, they have only managed to record two draws and one loss in their last three outings.

Still, Central Coast remains at the summit of the A-League ladder – at least for now.

Looking at the positives, the Yellow & Navy came from behind in both of their recent draws. Matt Simon scored a 90th-minute penalty to snatch a 2-2 tie with Perth Glory before Marco Urena netted the equalizer in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory.

Both Simon and Urena have been pivotal to CCM’s remarkable campaign up to now.

Having started all 14 games this season, Simon has six goals and two assists to his name, while Urena has racked up three goals and two assists in his previous seven appearances.

A run of one shutout in six matches underlines the Mariners’ recent struggles at the back. But if they can start keeping clean sheets again, they should remain at the top end of the A-League ladder.

Will Adelaide Win Again?

A dreadful run of four defeats in five games across January and February saw Adelaide plummet down the standings. But since then, the Reds have only been moving in one direction – and that’s up.

All of a sudden, Carl Veart’s men head into Thursday’s clash on a six-match winning streak. What a difference a month makes, right?

Interestingly, Adelaide’s winning run began with a 3-2 victory over the Mariners. The South Australians then beat the Wanderers by the same scoreline before seeing off Newcastle and Victory.

The Reds’ biggest test came against Sydney FC last weekend – and they passed the test with flying colors. Having dominated possession for large spells of the game, Craig Goodwin’s 76th-minute penalty earned Adelaide a sixth straight win at the expense of the defending champions.

With four goals and two assists in five A-League games this term, there is absolutely no denying that Goodwin has made a massive impact since returning to the club.

Mariners vs. Adelaide Betting Pick

Pick
  • The Draw
    3.70

The Mariners may not have won any of their last three games, but they have still remained stubborn. The league leaders have shown spirit and determination to rescue draws recently, meaning Adelaide could struggle to break them down.

Of course, the Reds will head to Central Coast brimming with belief. However, I can see Stajcic’s men frustrating in-form Adelaide and snatching a point.
