Pick and Prediction for Game 1 of NBA Finals – Celtics vs. Warriors (2022)

| June 1, 2022 9:30 am PDT

It’s been a very long season, but the NBA Finals are finally here. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals for their first championship berth since 2019.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals for their first NBA Finals appearance since 2010.

Both of these teams have had incredible seasons, but there can only be one winner. Golden State is the host of Game 1 and earned extra rest due to winning the WCF in 6 games. Will it be enough to hold off the Celtics?

Let’s take a look at the NBA Finals Game 1 odds for the Celtics vs. Warriors.

Here are the NBA Finals Game 1 betting odds from the best NBA betting sites.

Golden State comes into Game 1 as the slight favorite of about 3.5 points over Boston. They have home court advantage and have a 6 days worth of rest compared to Boston’s 3 days. Those could be the simple reasons why the Warriors are favored to win.

I’m expecting Boston to be favored when they play at home as well, which will be in games 3 and 4 of the series. That’s a good representation of how tight these games should be. After all, it is the best of the best going at it in the championship round.

The over/under line is set around 212.5 for this game as well. If you can’t decide on a team to bet on, maybe you’ll feel more comfortable with a point total bet.

Since this is the NBA Finals, you can basically pick either team to win a certain game and have a strong case to be right. Both teams have earned their tickets to the Finals, so they’ve proven that they have what it takes to beat the best NBA teams this season.

Let’s get right into the matchup preview to see how these two teams look head to head.

Celtics vs. Warriors Matchup Preview

These two teams don’t have a lot of head to head matchups against each other this season. They’ve only played twice to be exact with the Warriors winning on December 17 and the Celtics winning on March 16th.

So a season series split doesn’t really do us any favors, but the regular season is vastly different than the NBA Finals. It really could just be about who shows up the best in that specific game and who is the healthiest.

Boston Celtics Preview

Boston’s style of play is tough defense and offense through Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. It has worked out beautifully this year and helped them all the way to the Finals. Tatum is their superstar and is going to be making those shots in big moments if they want a shot of winning a ring.

The Celtics have been a very good team over the last couple of years, but they haven’t been able to seal the deal. If they can be at full health and play like they usually do, they should have a shot at winning any game and the series overall.

Boston actually graded better than Golden State offensively this year with the 7th best Offensive Rating. Golden State ranked 17th and committed a ton of turnovers at 14.9 per game. The turnovers rank 29th out of 30 in the NBA, which is terrible.

Boston’s a great defensive team, so they should be able to force a good amount of turnovers in this one. Given how these two teams are pretty evenly matched up, turnovers could be the difference.

Golden State Warriors Preview

Yes, the Warriors commit a high amount of turnovers but they make up for it. They play at a fast pace and could put up 20 points in the blink of an eye. Not only are they capable of insane offensive spurts, they also are tied with the Celtics for the best Defensive Rating in the NBA.

The original big 3 is back at full health and they’ve proven that they can still play at the highest level in basketball. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green lead the charge, but other players are really stepping it up.

Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, Andrew Wiggins, and more have been incredible in secondary roles. They have a ton of different scoring options and can attack from a ton of different angles.

Boston’s going to be a very tough team to play against, but Golden State can score on anyone. I would say that the Warriors plan of attack should be a fast paced game to make Boston play small.

Robert Williams and Al Horford are two great bigs, but Golden State can run circles around them if they play at a high pace. Forcing them off the court would make it easier to score on the interior as well.

Celtics vs. Warriors Same Game Parlay for Game 1

Andrew Wiggins Over 15.5 Points-130
Jordan Poole Over 15.5 Points-121
Jaylen Brown Over 2.5 Threes-136
Marcus Smart Over 3.5 Rebounds-145

You can build a nice Same Game Parlay on Bovada for Game 1 of the NBA Finals in addition to a game pick. Combining these 4 selections give you the odds of (+775). That means a $100 bet on all 4 legs to hit would return $875.

This is the first game of the series, so I’m expecting the Celtics to gameplan for the Splash Bros in Curry and Klay. Their point totals are set pretty high, so I think Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole make more sense to target.

They both played big roles in their success against Dallas and they’ll have to do so again if they want to win. Wiggins averaged 15.5 points per game against the Mavericks and scored 16+ in 5 out of 6 games.

Poole averaged almost 14 points per game last series (13.67) and scored 19 and 23 in Games 1 and 2 respectively.

On the other hand, Jaylen Brown should be in for a good amount of threes as well. He didn’t shoot well from deep to finish last series, but he’s going to have a couple of days of rest in this one.

Brown hit 3+ threes in Games 1 through 3 in the last series. He hit 5 in Game 5, but hit just 1 in Games 4, 6, and 7. The extra rest should be able to help him out from deep.

Marcus Smart is going to be on the court a ton in this series with the Warriors insane amount of scoring guards/non-bigs. He grabbed 4+ rebounds in 8 games straight too.

Celtics vs. Warriors Betting Prediction for Game 1 of NBA Finals

  • Golden State Warriors -3.5

At the end of the day, it makes more sense to bet on the Warriors right now. They’ve had double the amount of rest that the Celtics have and get home court advantage. I also think that facing the Warriors at first is going to take some time to get used to.

Typically when you see a team for the first time, it takes a minute to get a feel for how they play. Considering how insanely fast the Warriors can get a huge lead on you, that should benefit Golden State in Game 1.

I expect Boston to put up a good fight though. The Warriors high amount of turnovers worries me and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see this series go to Game 7.

I’ll roll with Golden State in Game 1, but you really can’t go wrong betting on either team. If you can’t decide on a team to bet on, try a same game parlay to keep things interesting.
