Celtic vs. AC Milan – Europa League, October 22, 2020
AC Milan will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2020/21 season when they visit Celtic Park in the Europa League on Thursday, October 22.
Celtic will be desperate to bounce back from Saturday’s Old Firm defeat to arch-rivals Rangers, although Neil Lennon’s side is likely to struggle against one of this year’s Europa League favorites.

Celtic vs. AC Milan Odds
It goes without saying that Celtic (4.20) will miss the backing of their home supporters on Thursday. At full capacity, Celtic Park is one of the toughest away trips in European soccer. But behind closed doors, the Scottish side doesn’t pose the same threat.
Unsurprisingly, AC Milan (1.75) is the favorite with the leading online sportsbooks to win this one. If you fancy Celtic’s chances of stealing a draw, you can get odds of 3.85.
Celtic vs. AC Milan Preview
Celtic fell in the second qualifying round for the Champions League back in August and was then forced to win two games just to reach the Europa League group stage. Of course, missing out on a spot in the UCL was a massive disappointment. But the Hoops will still be eager to impress on the European stage.
Still, Lennon’s men haven’t had it all their own way the season. Celtic is usually miles clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after ten games. But with eight wins, one draw, and one defeat to their name, the Bhoys find themselves four points behind league-leaders Rangers.
Granted, Celtic does have a game in hand over Rangers, although Saturday’s Old Firm defeat saw Steven Gerrard’s side claim the Glasgow bragging rights. Lennon will be looking for a big response from his players this week, but that is easier said than done against a team of Milan’s quality.
On the flip side, AC Milan has been unstoppable so far this term. Four straight wins have seen Stefano Pioli’s men open up a two-point lead at the top of the Serie A table, and they have only conceded one goal along the way.
Unlike Celtic, the Rossoneri enjoyed derby-day glory last weekend, with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic double handing Milan a 2-1 victory over Inter on Saturday. The ageless striker has only feature in two league games this season, yet he has scored a brace on both occasions.
You don’t need me to tell you that Celtic must keep Ibrahimovic quiet on Thursday. However, isn’t Milan’s only threat. Hakan Calhanoglu and Rafael Leao have both been among the goals in recent weeks, while goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has kept four clean sheets in seven outings.
Celtic vs. AC Milan Pick
AC Milan to Win1.75
Considering that Celtic isn’t at their best right now and Milan is flying, I think odds of 1.75 for the away win are pretty generous. Of course, Lennon’s men will do their best to frustrate the visitors. But I can’t see them doing enough to get anything from this game.
It is difficult to overstate the role that Celtic supporters play in European matches. The Hoops rely on their fans, and without them, the team just isn’t the same.
