The Carolina Panthers were in an excellent form of three consecutive wins as they beat the Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, and Atlanta Falcons, but that positive run ended with a home loss to the Chicago Bears. The Panthers now dropped to a 3-3 record and are a win behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.

The New Orleans Saints, on the other hand, responded to a two-game losing skid with a pair of narrow victories over the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers. The latest one over the Chargers on Thursday Night Football was particularly tight as the Saints needed overtime to get a win. They now improved to a 3-2 record and are in the 2nd place in the NFC South. Check out my Panthers vs. Saints betting prediction.

Panthers Scored Season-Low 16 Points in Loss to the Bears

The Carolina Panthers displayed the weakest offensive performance of the season so far as they scored only 16 points in a 23-16 home loss to the Chicago Bears. They trailed since the opening minutes and tried to come back in the fourth quarter by scoring ten points, but that proved to be insufficient to get the fourth straight victory. Although Carolina totaled more yards than Chicago (303-261), the Panthers did commit three turnovers opposite the Bears’ one.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 16 of 29 passes for 216 yards and two interceptions in his worst display of the year. Mike Davis recorded 52 yards with a touchdown on 18 carries, while DJ Moore and Robby Anderson combined for 170 receiving yards on nine catches. Safety Tre Boston was the standout guy for the Panthers on defense with eight tackles (five solos).

The Panthers are the 23rd team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 23.0 points per game, 9th in passing yards (266.7), 16th in rushing yards (116.8), while they have the 13th defense that allows 23.5 points per contest.

Tale of Two Halves in the Saints Win Over the Chargers

The New Orleans Saints were on the brink of the third defeat this season as they trailed to the Los Angeles Chargers 20-3 late in the first half, thanks to some early mistakes by Drew Brees and offense and heroics from the rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. However, Brees and co. responded late in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 20-10 and then kept the opponents to just seven points in the second 30 minutes to force overtime. Will Lutz was accurate enough to hand the Saints a 30-27 victory with a field goal kick in overtime.

Drew Brees completed 33 of 47 passes for 325 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while he also added a one-yard rushing TD. The running didn’t work for the Saints in this one, and Alvin Kamara ended the game as the team-lead rusher with 45 yards on 11 carries. The reason for this is that New Orleans trailed from the start and they utilized the air more than the ground. Wideout Emmanuel Sanders dominated through the air with 122 yards on 12 receptions, Kamara had 74 yards on eight catches, while tight end Jared Cook caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Jordan and Demario Davis recorded ten tackles apiece.

The Saints are the 6th team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 30.6 points per game, 12th in passing yards (263.4), 18th in rushing yards (115.0), while they have the 25th defense that allows 30.0 points per contest.

Panthers vs. Saints Pick

New Orleans is allowing a lot of points this season and they limited the rivals to under 27 points just once so far, and even though Carolina’s games usually don’t produce a lot of points, I am going with Over in this one. The Panthers faced a sturdy Chicago’s defense last time out and I am backing them to show a much better display on offense against the Saints, while I also expect Brees to return to his usual multi-touchdown production on Sunday. Four of the last six H2H encounters went Over.
