Canadian Premier League Predictions and Picks – Thursday, June 30 (2022)

It’s first against second in the Canadian Premier League this Thursday, June 30, as high-flying Cavalry travels to title-chasing Pacific. Can the defending champions snap their six-game winless run? Or will the Cavs extend their five-game winning streak?

Before the top-two showdown, HFX Wanderers and Atletico Ottawa go head-to-head in Halifax. With a solitary point separating the teams in the standings, the early kick-off is destined to be a tasty clash.

10bet favors the home teams to claim all three points on Thursday. That said, the high odds for the home wins suggest that HFX Wanderers and Pacific FC won’t have it all their own way.

It is worth noting that Atletico Ottawa and Cavalry FC both sit above their respective opponents in the standings. However, 10bet believes that home-field advantage should have an impact on the outcome of Thursday’s games.

Without further ado, let’s dive into my CPL predictions for Thursday, June 30, 2022

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that HFX Wanderers have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the Canadian Premier League this season.

Having registered five wins, two draws, and five losses, Stephen Hart’s men find themselves fifth in the standings – level with fourth-place Forge on 17 points and seven points behind first-place Cavalry.

The Wanderers head into Thursday’s clash on the back of a hugely impressive 3-0 victory over defending champions Pacific. Mour Samb and Aidan Daniels both scored in the first half, with Samuel Salter wrapping things up after the break.

Salter’s goals have helped the Wanderers win three of their previous five games. If the young striker continues to hit the target, Hart’s men will continue to climb the standings.

Meanwhile, Atletico Ottawa suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to FC Edmonton in their previous outing. Carlos Gonzalez’s boys only managed to register a single shot on target as they handed the Eddies their first win of the season.

It is worth pointing out that Ottleti has struggled for goals throughout the campaign. In fact, only second-bottom York United has netted fewer goals than Gonzalez’s boys in 2022.

There is no denying that Atletico Ottawa has outperformed HFX Wanderers this year, but the Wanderers have upped their game of late. For that reason, I can see the hosts holding their visitors to a draw on Thursday.

Second-place Pacific sits four points behind first-place Cavalry. However, it is worth noting that Cavalry has two games in hand on Pacific.

The Cavs have lost just two of their 11 CPL games this season, securing seven wins and two draws in the process. Despite having played fewer games than many of their rivals, they find themselves in a seriously strong position.

Cavalry comes into Thursday’s showdown on a five-game winning streak. When you look at the bigger picture, the league leaders have won seven of their previous eight league matches.

Better still, the Albertans are the second-highest scorers in the CPL. Having netted 20 goals in 11 outings, they average 1.8 goals per game in 2022.

On the flip side, Pacific suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against the Wanderers last weekend. That means the British Columbians have lost three of their past four games.

Not only have they lost three of their past four games, but they have also failed to win any of their previous six. To make matters worse, they have fired three straight blanks.

At the beginning of May, Cavalry claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Pacific. Thanks to first-half strikes from Ali Adem Musse and Joe Mason, the Cavs dispatched James Merriman’s men without any real problems.

Judging by the contrasting form of these two sides, I’m confident that Cavalry will secure another win against Pacific on Thursday.

I predicted that HFX Wanderers and Atletico Ottawa will play out a draw on Thursday, but backing the draw is always a high-risk move. Instead, I’m going with the under 2.5 goals wager. Why? Because only four of Ottleti’s 11 CPL games have produced over 2.5 goals this season.

Given that you can triple your money, backing Cavalry to beat Pacific is a no-brainer for me. Granted, the Cavs are the away team. But they have won their last five games. By contrast, Pacific is on a six-game winless run.
