BYU is in the Top 20 and will take their unbeaten record on the road. Utah State will be looking for their first win over a Top 25 team since 2015 when they dethroned Boise State.

The Aggies will need to get their passing attack going after struggling against the Broncos last week. BYU seems to be clicking on all cylinders, regardless of who is starting at quarterback.

BYU will be favored in perhaps all of their games this season after starting 4-0. They have knocked off three Pac-12 teams thus far and will try their hand against the Mountain West. They didn’t show any concern over South Florida.

Many teams have begun their conference play, which means the competition will begin to worsen for BYU. As an Independent program, they will need to keep their flawless record.

Upsets have been occurring consistently thus far in the season, so the Cougars must play well on the road.

Here are the latest odds for this showdown in Logan via Sports Betting AG.

BYU vs. Utah State Odds

BYU (-7.5)-112
Utah State (+7.5)-108
BYU to Win-300
Utah State to Win+250
Over 59.5-112
Under 59.5-108

The Cougars have been struggling on the road when they are favored. BYU is 3-5 in their past eight against the spread, but the opposition has been even worse.

Utah State has been abysmal as home underdogs. The Aggies are 1-9 against the spread as home dogs, and they have lost seven of them in blowout fashions.

Utah State has had struggles thus far in the season, but perhaps they will have some tricks up their sleeves. The Aggies pass defense struggle to cover the wideouts of Boise State, which is a concern when you look at only getting a touchdown.

Here are the latest keys to victory for both squads in this non-conference Friday night clash.

Why BYU Wins

BYU has continued to dominate the line of scrimmage. They didn’t even have their starting quarterback last week against South Florida, and the result didn’t matter. Baylor Romney replaced Jaren Hall and did not let up against South Florida. If Hall returns, this offense will be even more electric.

Romney connected with his brother Gunner Romney this past week over the Bulls. Baylor ended up finishing 305 yards passing and three scores without throwing an interception. This program continues to rely on Tyler Allgeier as he paved the way with 86 yards on 15 carries to go along with two scores.

The Cougar offense is balanced, and they continue to prove the doubters wrong. They have a favorable schedule to make even more noise than they currently have.

The weeks are passing by America, and they keep forgetting this team has one of the better coaches. Kilani Sitake means business and is going to keep coming away with more victories. The ability to execute at a high level for this program has been impressive.

BYU’s wideouts and pass-catchers have been getting better after every game. They don’t get much recognition in the national landscape, but they continue to light up opposing defensive backs.

Utah State struggled on defense against Boise State, which gives the Cougars a favorable matchup despite playing in their road opener.

Why Utah State Wins

The Aggies are playing at home, and there have been several upsets involving unranked teams at home. NC State stunned Clemson last week in Raleigh.

There are pieces on this offense to give BYU a run for their money.

Logan Bonner has the pieces to dissect the BYU secondary, but he must avoid costly turnovers. Bonner threw two picks against Boise State, and they don’t have the elite defense to make up for any mistakes.

Calvin Tyler Jr. is one of the more productive backs in the Mountain West. He has posted consecutive 100-yard games and has now run for 400 yards on the season. He failed to reach paydirt last week in the loss to Boise State, but he still has four scores on the year.

If Utah State controls the line of scrimmage, they will have a great shot to pull this upset off. College football lives for games under the lights with the crowd, and we have yet to see BYU show many weaknesses at home. Being on the road could give the Aggies a shot to stun the Cougars.

BYU vs. Utah State Prediction

Non-conference games will have odd finishes, and that is where upsets are beginning to occur. BYU has been an underrated team in the trenches for years.

Sitake has them fighting on every possession, and this team is no joke.

BYU isn’t going to gag away their road opener. They enter as solid favorites on the road, and they will look at the tape where Boise State exposed the Utah State defense.

The Cougars are thriving in the polls. They consistently are beating the opposition up on both sides of the ball. Their schedule is far from a cakewalk, but they have the goods to win every game on their schedule. They sadly would fall short of the College Football Playoff but could continue to surge up the rankings. They will walk away with another victory to start 5-0.

BYU vs. Utah State Pick

BYU continues to get passed up on many discussions on the better teams in college football. The Cougars are the pick here, but take a pass on the Moneyline. The Cougars bring value with the points on the road. Until offensive struggles begin, keep rolling with the Cougars.
