Busan IPark vs. Gangwon Betting Preview – K League 1, September 27, 2020

| September 25, 2020 2:58 am PDT

Byung-soo ball finally crashed and burned last week as Gangwon somehow contrived to miss out on a top six finish and will now battle against the bottom half of the table in the next five weeks.

This Sunday Busan IPark is the host as the Royals look to complete a relatively successful first season back in K League 1.

Busan IPark vs. Gangwon Odds

Busan IPark to Win+175
The Draw+229
Gangwon to Win+142

Gangwon missed out on the top six because it conceded too many goals as it stayed rigidly with tactics that failed to work consistently after the first few months of the season. If the players’ heads are still down then the odds from MyBookie for the draw or even the home win will look very interesting here.

Busan IPark vs. Gangwon Match Preview

It was always going to be a long shot for Busan IPark to finish in the top six at the split, but it has ended up being a surprise that the team is just three points behind Gangwon. Maybe if Busan had won more than one out of the last eleven league games it would be competing for an AFC Champions League spot right now instead.

If the home side can get out of the current run of form and return to the exciting brand of soccer that we saw earlier in the year, then it might have a chance on Sunday though. It was only a late goal from Lee Young-jae that gave Gangwon the win when these two met last week and Busan would seem to be in a better place than its opponents right now.

It will be fascinating to see how Gangwon manager Kim Byung-soo approaches the rest of the season. It had seemed that he had at least tried to alter the way he set out his team recently. But that win against Busan – and a surprise win over Jeonbuk – were the only victories in the league since the middle of July.

Gangwon might regard the remaining five fixtures as ones against weaker opposition and return to the free-flowing soccer that brought all the plaudits at the start of the season. But it has conceded a lot of goals this season because of that freedom and if things go wrong we may even see the club drop further into a relegation battle.

My Prediction and Betting Pick

Pick
  • The Draw
    +229

With Gangwon’s players surely feeling the embarrassment of finishing in the bottom half at the split, I feel as though it could take a few weeks for them to get back on track. Busan will play with the same amount as energy as ever – and the odds for a draw between these two look inviting to me.
