Busan IPark vs. Gangwon – K League 1, September 16, 2020

| September 14, 2020 3:15 am PDT

The chances of either of these two making the top six are fairly remote, but defeat for Busan or Gangwon on Wednesday would all but end any remaining top six dreams.

It has been an inconsistent season for both clubs but there has been some excellent soccer played at times. So this game could be one to look out for.

Latest Betting Odds

Busan IPark to Win +164
The Draw +253
Gangwon to Win +166

The sportsbooks can hardly pick between these two and that is understandable due to their almost identical records this season. They are tied on 21 points going into this one and have a fairly equal goal scoring – and conceding – record as well.

This could be one of those games where one side completely blows the other out the water, but I think the odds for the draw bet hold the greater value.

Match Preview

A win for Busan would keep it in the hunt for a top six place but there have not been too many of those in recent weeks. In fact, the Royals have only managed that once in the last ten games in all competitions and have drawn the last two – most recently with bottom of the table Incheon.

It has actually been a relatively successful campaign for Busan after coming up last season. There have been some very spirited displays throughout, even if the results have not been quite as forthcoming. The players could probably do with a little more top flight experience to really compete.

Gangwon has been more frustrating than anything. The team has played some of the best soccer in the league under the tutelage of manager Kim Byung-soo. But a lack of adapting and changing tactics once things have gone wrong has meant that there have been more losses than it looked like there would be earlier in the season.

Gangwon is another team that has endured a torrid time recently – also winning just one of ten in all competitions. The last two games have both ended in defeats with six goals conceded, so it doesn’t look like Byung-soo ball has included defending as part of its way of playing. That could end up being a problem against Busan on Wednesday.

Prediction and Betting Pick

  • The Draw

With the way that Gangwon can throw away a leading position, I find it very difficult to back the team to win games away from home. Especially when the opposition is Busan.

I’m not sure that the home side is the better team overall – but I do think it will have more about it as it looks to pick up a crucial three points.
