Burnley vs. Liverpool – English Premier League, May 19, 2021

It had seemed as though their chance had gone, but Liverpool now has a very good chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season as it gets ready to play Burnley on Wednesday.

With Chelsea and Leicester playing each other the day before, Jurgen Klopp’s side would climb into the top four with just one game to go if it wins here.

Burnley vs. Liverpool Odds

Liverpool to Win-400

There is no disguising how BetOnline thinks this one will go on Wednesday. Burnley is a big underdog to win a home game, as Liverpool attempts to win the points that would put it on the track for a top-four finish.

As enticing as these odds are for the home win, I can’t see Liverpool losing this game.

Preview of the Match

Burnley did enough in February and March to ensure that it wouldn’t become entangled in a relegation battle at this time of the season. Another couple of victories since then has made life even easier. But the 4-0 scoreline in its game against Leeds at the weekend seems a little unfair on how Sean Dyche’s side performed.

It is not as though Burnley should have won even a point at Turf Moor, but Leeds did take its chances while Burnley fluffed anything that came its way. The result did highlight how much Dyche could do with another striker, though, even after the recent good scoring run of Chris Wood.

More worrying for the Liverpool game is the likelihood of keeper Nick Pope being unavailable.

Liverpool’s attacking players could take advantage of that absence. Still, there are goals all through Klopp’s side – as the game against West Brom at the weekend proved. After going a goal down early on, it looked as though Liverpool would have to settle for a draw as the clock ran down. Keeper Alisson went up for a last-minute corner and headed in a beautiful goal.

That goal could well propel the Anfield club into the Champions League next season after it had looked as though the champions might miss out. Now Liverpool has two relatively easy games to finish the season, while its rivals play each other and/or have bigger games on their mind. Even a season-ending injury to Diogo Jota shouldn’t stop Liverpool from winning on Wednesday.

Burnley vs. Liverpool Pick

  • Liverpool to Win

Liverpool continues to be hit by injuries to key players but still looks dangerous going forward. So, even a determined Burnley shouldn’t be able to keep the likes of Salah, Mane, and Firmino out – even if Alisson fails to get on the scoresheet again.

This should give Liverpool a great chance of finishing in the top four.
