Bundesliga Predictions and Top Betting Picks for Round 23 (February 18-20, 2022)

Bochum stunned everyone by thrashing Bayern Munich 4-2 last weekend. With Borussia Dortmund beating Union Berlin 3-0, the gap between first and second now stands at six points.

We have another full round of Bundesliga games to get our teeth into this weekend. Before I share my Bundesliga predictions and picks for Round 23, let’s check out the fixture list.

Away from the top two, Bayer Leverkusen will aim to record a fifth consecutive victory when they visit Mainz on Friday. Elsewhere, RB Leipzig can pick up their fifth win in six games against Hertha Berlin.

I will be taking an in-depth look at four standout games before sharing the rest of my Bundesliga predictions for Round 23. Be sure to stick around for my recommended bets, too.

Can anyone stop Bayer Leverkusen right now?

Gerardo Seoane’s men notched their fourth straight Bundesliga win last weekend, dispatching Stuttgart 4-2. Thanks to five-goal wins over Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund, they have netted over 3.5 goals in each of their past three outings.

Bayer shouldn’t struggle to get the better of Mainz. Seoane’s side has racked up more points than any other team across the last five matches, so this should be another straightforward win for the Champions League chasers.

A six-game losing streak between November and January saw Wolfsburg slide down the standings. Since then, however, the team has turned the corner.

By contrast, Hoffenheim has taken a turn for the worse of late. Sebastian Hoeneß’s men have lost three of their past four games, although they managed to beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 in the previous round.

Having taken everything into consideration, the draw feels like the most probable result for this clash. Hoffenheim remains seven points clear of Wolfsburg, but the Wolves have upped their game in recent weeks.

Bayern Munich suffered a shock 4-2 defeat to Bochum last weekend. That means the defending champions have lost four of their 22 Bundesliga game this season, securing 17 wins and one draw along the way.

At the opposite end of the standings, Greuther Furth find themselves in last place – 39 points behind first-place Bayern. The strugglers have only managed to win three of their 22 league encounters this term.

I’m confident that last weekend’s surprise defeat was a freak result for Bayern. I fully expect the reigning champs to bounce back in style by thrashing lowly Furth.

This is undoubtedly the standout tie of Round 23. The two Borussias are among the biggest clubs in the Bundesliga, although Dortmund is enjoying a far better season than Monchengladbach.

Having won four of their past five Bundesliga clashes, Dortmund is one of the country’s in-form teams. They sealed a dominant 3-0 victory at Union Berlin last weekend, with Marco Rues bagging a brace.

I expect Gladbach to rise to the occasion on Sunday, but I can see BVB coming out on top. Even without the injured Erling Haaland, Dortmund has enough firepower to get the better of Gladbach.

Here are the rest of my Bundesliga predictions for Round 23.

Since sixth-place Freiburg leads sixteenth-place Augsburg by 12 points, the visitors should beat the hosts on Saturday. I’m also confident that Bochum will beat struggling Stuttgart after seeing off Bayern last time out.

RB Leipzig should get the better of Hertha Berlin, too. The Red Bulls have won four of their previous five matches, while the club from the capital heads into Round 23 on a five-game winless streak.

I can see both Arminia Bielefeld vs. Union Berlin and Koln vs. Eintracht Frankfurt ending in a draw. Arminia has made some big improvements of late, as has Koln.

Odds of 2.15 for Bayer Leverkusen to beat Mainz seem too good to miss. Leverkusen heads into Round 23 on a four-game winning streak, while the 05ers have won just two of their previous six encounters.

Bayern Munich is priced at just 1.10 to beat Greuther Furth, with the visitors priced all the way up at 36.00. In order to get the best possible bet for this matchup, I recommend throwing the over 3.5 goals market into the mix.

This season, 18 of Dortmund’s 22 Bundesliga games have seen both teams score (82%). Gladbach has also dished up plenty of eventful clashes, with 16 of their encounters seeing both teams score (73%). Backing both teams to score is a no-brainer for this matchup.
