Bundesliga Predictions and Picks for Round 34 (Saturday, May 14, 2022)

The final round of the 2021-22 German Bundesliga season takes place this Saturday, May 14, with all nine games kicking off at 14:30 local time.

As a matter of course, Bayern Munich clinched the title a few weeks ago. But there is still plenty to play for at both ends of the table. Three teams remain in contention for the fourth and final Champions League berth, while three teams can finish in the dreaded relegation play-off place.

So, for the final time this season, join me as I go over my Bundesliga predictions and betting picks for Round 34.

Before we get stuck into my Round 34 Bundesliga predictions and picks, let’s check out Saturday’s Bundesliga odds – courtesy of 10Bet.

As you can see, only two sides – Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig – are favored to win away from home this weekend. Bayern has already wrapped up the title, while Leipzig will be aiming to secure fourth place on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund, Augsburg, Union Berlin, and Mainz are expected to claim comfortable home victories. Elsewhere, the bookmakers can’t seem to separate Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg.

It’s time to take you through my Bundesliga predictions for Round 34. Once my predictions are out of the way, I will go over the best Bundesliga bets for Saturday, May 14.

Bochum has nothing left to play for this season. Thomas Reis’ men sit 12 points clear of the bottom three, meaning they are safe from relegation. But they also find themselves ten points shy of the European places.

By contrast, Round 34 is crucial for Union Berlin. A win would see them secure Europa League soccer for next season, but they could also drop into the Europa Conference League if they lose and FC Koln beat Stuttgart.

While the Bochum players are already thinking about their offseason vacations, the Union players know they have a job to do on Saturday. Following last weekend’s 4-1 thrashing of Freiburg, Union shouldn’t struggle to deal the deal.

As it stands, Stuttgart occupies the relegation play-off place. If Stuttgart beats FC Koln AND Hertha Berlin loses to Borussia Dortmund, Stuttgart will move out of the bottom three at the eleventh hour.

Talk about incentives!

On the flip side, Koln suffered a damaging 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in the previous round. That means Europa League qualification is out of their hands.

There is no hiding the fact that Stuttgart needs to win this clash more than Koln. With a place in the Bundesliga on the line, I can see Stuttgart producing a match-winning performance on home soil.

Barring a minor miracle, Arminia Bielefeld will be playing second-tier soccer next season. The Blues find themselves three points behind Stuttgart, but their inferior goal difference means they are all but relegated.

Arminia heads into Round 34 on a ten-game winless run, having recorded two draws and eight losses over the past couple of months. Few would argue that Arminia deserves to stay in the Bundesliga after such a bad run.

Christopher Nkunku bagged a brace as Leipzig crushed Augsburg 4-0 last time out. Remarkably, the Frenchman has racked up 34 goals and 20 assists across all competitions this season – including 20 goals and 15 assists in 33 Bundesliga outings.

Given what is at stake, I fully expect Nkunku and co. to dispatch relegation-doomed Arminia.

I’m confident that Borussia Dortmund, Augsburg, Mainz, and Bayern Munich will finish the 2021-22 campaign on a high note. Second-place Dortmund faces fourth-bottom Hertha, while Augsburg faces already-relegation Furth.

Elsewhere, I can see both Bayer Leverkusen vs. Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Hoffenheim ending in a draw. I expect the clash between Leverkusen and Freiburg to be a close-fought battle, given their positions in the table.

While Dortmund boasts the second-best offensive record in the league, Hertha has the second-worst defensive record. For that reason, I recommend adding the –1 handicap onto the Dortmund win to boost the odds from 1.40 to 1.90.

Both teams have scored in 67% of Leverkusen’s games this season, while Freiburg has seen both teams score in 64% of their games. On top of that, the two sides have played a combined total of 66 Bundesliga matches this term, 43 of which have produced over 2.5 goals.

Bayern Munich has scored a whopping 95 Bundesliga goals this season, averaging just shy of 2.9 goals per game. I expect the champions to finish the campaign with a flurry of goals against lowly Wolfsburg.
