Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory – A-League, Wednesday, January 19, 2022

Perth Glory play their first A-League game in 43 days (yes, 43 days!) on Wednesday, January 19. Following multiple postponements, Richard Garcia’s team finally returns to action against Brisbane Roar.
The two sides find themselves at the bottom end of the A-League ladder. Last-place Brisbane trails tenth-place Perth by two points, so both teams will be desperate to secure maximum points at Moreton Daily Stadium.
After discussing the odds and analyzing both sides, I will share my prediction for Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory – along with a free betting pick for Wednesday’s clash.
Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory Odds
Despite failing to win any of their opening five matches, Brisbane heads into this one as the bookmakers’ favorite. That said, the high price for the home win suggests that Warren Moon’s men won’t have it all their own way on Wednesday.
The Glory have won just one of their four games this season, recording a draw and two losses in the process. The Western Australians come into this clash as the bookies’ outsiders.
Before we get to my Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory prediction and betting pick, let’s check out the head-to-head record. I will then take a closer look at both teams.
Roar vs. Glory Head-to-Head (Last 10 Games)
- Brisbane Roar Wins: 3
- Draws: 2
- Perth Glory Wins: 5
The Queenslanders have managed to win just three of their past ten A-League meetings with Perth, suffering five defeats along the way.
Perth has won four of the previous seven encounters, losing just once in that time. It is also worth noting that Garcia’s men have scored over 2.5 goals in each of their last three victories over Brisbane.
Interestingly, both teams have scored in nine of the past ten A-League matches between Brisbane and Perth. Something tells me that Wednesday’s encounter won’t be a low-scoring affair.
Will the Roar Claim Their First Win of the Season?
Having taken just two points from a possible 15, it’s fair to say that Brisbane has made a terrible start to the 2021-22 campaign.
The Roar kicked off their season with back-to-back losses to Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory, conceding a combined total of five goals. In their next match, they managed to hold Adelaide United to a goalless draw.
They swiftly returned to losing ways, though, going down 1-0 to Western United. Last time out, they picked up only their second point of the campaign – registering a 1-1 draw with Sydney FC.
The offseason departure of Dylan Wenzel-Halls has clearly impacted the team. The young forward moved to Western United last year, weakening Brisbane’s forward line.
Can the Glory Kick-Start Their Campaign?
While Brisbane lost a key forward during the offseason, Perth gained one. EPL and UCL winner Daniel Sturridge joined the Glory ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, although he’s yet to make an impact.
The former Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool star made just one five-minute substitute appearance across Perth’s opening four games. Hopefully, the two-month lay-off has given him time to regain fitness.
Garcia’s men recorded a 1-1 draw with Adelaide on the opening weekend before losing 1-0 to Western. They picked up their first win of the season against Victory in early December, thrashing Tony Popovic’s team 3-0.
The Glory showed signs of real promise last month before the pandemic got in their way. If they can pick up where they left off before the unscheduled break, they will cause Brisbane plenty of problems.
Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory Prediction
The recent head-to-head record suggests that Perth has the upper hand in this fixture. The Glory have won exactly 50% of their previous ten meetings with Brisbane, suffering just three losses.
The Western Australians also boast the best defensive record in the A-League. Granted, they have played the fewest number of games this season. But they have been resolute at the back.
By contrast, the Roar have been shipping goals for fun. Having registered two draws and three defeats in their opening five matches, the Queenslanders look set to suffer another loss on Wednesday.
My Betting Pick for Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory
-
Perth Glory to Win3.30
I’m backing Perth to claim all three points on Wednesday. Although the Glory have yet to get into their groove, the Roar have been awful. All the signs point towards the away win here.
