Brisbane welcomes Perth to Queensland on Wednesday, June 2, in the penultimate round of regular-season matches with a playoff berth on the line.

The Roar currently find themselves sixth on the A-League ladder – two points ahead of seventh-place Wellington. The hosts would all but secure a top-six finish with a win on Wednesday.

On the flip side, the Glory sit ninth – four points behind Brisbane. With only two games remaining, anything less than victory would be disastrous for the visitors.

Having suffered just two defeats in 11 home games this season, Brisbane (2.05) is the bookmakers’ favorite to win this one. That said, the Roar have only managed to win one of their last six outings.

Perth (3.35) beat Brisbane 3-1 in the reverse fixture back in February, although a lot has changed since then. Richard Garcia’s men have only managed to win two of their 11 away matches this term and have recently finished a stretch of eight home games in a row.

Anyway, that’s what the betting sites think. It’s time to take a closer look at the teams.

Warren Moon’s men gave themselves an excellent chance of qualifying for the finals by producing a seven-match unbeaten streak (four wins, three draws) between March and May.

They beat Macarthur, Western Sydney, Central Coast, and Western United in that time and looked set to seal a top-six berth without any problems.

After losing to Melbourne City and Adelaide United, the Roar beat Newcastle before gaining their revenge over the newly-crowned premiers. But Sunday’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to the Wanderers has set up a nervy ending to the regular season.

Despite recording 20 shots last weekend, Moon’s men failed to find a way through. Needless to say, they can’t afford to be wasteful in front of goal when the Glory come to town.

Meanwhile, the Western Australians have come from nowhere (quite literally) to put themselves in contention for a finals spot.

Perth only managed to pick up a single win in 12 games between March and May, registering four draws and seven losses along the way. But since then, a six-match unbeaten streak (four wins, two draws) has changed everything.

The Glory claimed four straight wins on home soil last month, beating Melbourne Victory, Western, WSW, and Adelaide.

Garcia’s men drew 1-1 with Macarthur shortly after before producing a 2-2 thriller with Wellington last time out. Still, they extended their unbeaten streak and remain in the running for a top-six place.

Bruno Fornaroli scored AGAIN against the Nix, taking his tally to 12 for the season. With four goals and three assists in his last six appearances, the Uruguayan forward holds the key to Perth’s chances of success.

In all honesty, it is difficult to foresee the outcome of this clash. Although both sides will be desperate to claim all three points on Wednesday, they will also be eager to avoid defeat.

I’m going with the draw for my Brisbane Roar vs. Perth Glory betting pick, given that both teams can’t afford to lose. Ultimately, I can see this being a seriously tense affair.
