Brisbane Roar vs. Newcastle Jets Betting Preview – A-League, February 14, 2021

The Roar were denied a fifth win on the spin by Macarthur on Tuesday, with the Bulls claiming a shock 0-2 win at Dolphin Stadium. Next up, Brisbane hosts the Jets, who have just appointed head coach Craig Deans on a permanent basis.

A three-game unbeaten streak (two wins, one draw) sees Newcastle head to Queensland sitting eighth on the A-League ladder – five points shy of second-place Brisbane.

With four wins in their last five games, Brisbane (2.00) is the favorite with all the best online soccer betting sites to get the better of Newcastle (3.60) on Sunday.

Let’s not forget that the two sides have already faced off this year, with the Roar claiming a 1-2 victory over the Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium last month.

Let’s get one thing straight – despite losing to Macarthur last time out, the Roar are still in a strong position.

Much was made of Brisbane’s 0-2 defeat to the Bulls, with many believing that Warren Moon’s side underestimated the A-League newcomers. But at the end of the day, the Queenslanders simply wasted their opportunities.

Moon’s men racked up 19 shots on Tuesday, eight of which were on target. Meanwhile, Macarthur converted two of their eight attempts, leaving the Roar to rue their mistakes.

Still, Brisbane’s recent four-game winning streak is difficult to ignore. Moon’s men netted 13 goals in a little over a month, twice seeing off Melbourne Victory (1-3, 5-2), as well as beating the Jets (1-2) and Adelaide United (3-1).

Dylan Wenzel-Halls has already bagged five goals and two assists in six games this term. With Scott McDonald (three goals, two assists) and Riku Danzaki (three goals, one assist) also chipping in, the Roar’s forward line is looking seriously dangerous.

As the third-lowest scorers in the league, it’s fair to say that Newcastle’s forward line is nowhere near as potent as Brisbane’s. However, the team has managed to grind out some positive results of late.

After losing their opening four games, the Jets finally opened their 2020/21 account by beating Wellington Phoenix 1-2 last month, before sealing a respectable 1-1 draw with the Wanderers.

Last time out, Craig Deans’ men stunned everyone by securing an unlikely win 1-0 over Melbourne City.

It wasn’t just a freak result, either. The Jets genuinely deserved to beat last season’s runner-up. Newcastle bombarded City’s goal with 16 shots overall, with Valentino Yuel scoring the only goal of the game.

Deans’ men will be brimming with belief after beating City, although Brisbane poses a completely different threat altogether.

Following a sticky start to the season, things are now looking up for Newcastle. With Deans being given the full-time role, I’m expecting the Jets to continue to move up the ladder in the coming weeks.

However, I can see them beating Brisbane. The Roar have made an excellent start to the 2020/21 campaign, so I’m backing them to avoid defeat on Sunday.

Having taken everything into consideration, I believe the draw is the best bet for this matchup.
