Brisbane Roar vs. Melbourne Victory Betting Preview – A-League, February 6, 2021

When Victory hosted Brisbane in early January, the Roar claimed a comfortable 3-1 win, kicking starting a three-game winning streak for the Queenslanders.

Warren Moon’s men now find themselves at the summit of the A-League standings – five points ahead of second-bottom Victory.

Given the contrasting form of these two teams, I’m surprised that the price for the Brisbane win (2.15) isn’t slightly lower here. This makes backing the home side a very attractive option.

Melbourne Victory (3.10) has shown glimpses of promise this season, but there is no denying that Grant Brebner’s men deserve to be sitting towards the bottom end of the table.

Brisbane kicked off their 2020/21 A-League campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss to Melbourne City. But since then, things have only gotten better.

Indeed, the Queenslanders have won each of their previous three matches, scoring a total of eight goals along the way.

Four of those goals have been scored by Dylan Wenzel-Halls, while the 23-year-old has also notched up two assists. Wenzel-Halls bagged a brace against Adelaide United last time out, cementing his status as one of the brightest young forwards in the division.

Warren Moon will be aware that his team is yet to keep a clean sheet this term. The Roar has conceded exactly one goal in each of their four outings so far, but thankfully, the forward line has been firing on all cylinders.

With veteran striker Scott McDonald aiding Wenzel-Halls in the attack, Victory will find it difficult to stop Brisbane on Saturday.

On the flip side, Victory has only managed to win one of their four games this season, recording two defeats and one draw in the process.

Following back-to-back defeats to Brisbane and Adelaide, the Boys in Blue edged Perth Glory 2-1, with Jake Brimmer scoring twice in the dying moments to hand his side an unlikely win.

Grant Brebner’s men can count themselves extremely fortunate to have come away from their previous outing with a draw. Western United had two goals ruled out by VAR, while Alessandro Diamanti hit the crossbar twice. However, Victory managed to hold on and claim a precious point.

Having only recently signed for the club, former EPL stars Callum McManaman and Rudy Gestede are both currently sidelined through injury. Without their first-choice attacking options, it is tough to imagine Victory upsetting the odds on Saturday.

It feels like Brisbane is on an unstoppable run at the moment. Moon’s men head into this clash on a three-match winning run, and I believe the visit of off-form Victory provides them with the ideal opportunity to extend their hot streak to four games.

Let’s not forget that the Roar has already beaten Victory 3-1 this season. The Queenslanders humiliated Brebner’s side on their own patch last month, so they are likely to find life even easier on home soil this time around.

Given that you can more than double your money by backing Brisbane, going with the home win is a no-brainer here.
