Brisbane Roar vs. Melbourne City – A-League, May 25, 2021

| May 24, 2021 11:39 am PDT

Melbourne City clinched their first-ever Premiers’ Plate on Saturday thanks to a hard-fought victory over Central Coast. Now, Patrick Kisnorbo’s men will aim to finish the regular season on a high before the Finals Series gets underway.

On the flip side, a run of two defeats in 11 matches has Brisbane cement sixth place on the A-League ladder. The Queenslanders find themselves two points ahead of seventh-place Perth with a game in hand over the six teams below them.

The Roar welcomes the 2021 premiers to Moreton Daily Stadium on Tuesday, May 25. I look at the odds for Tuesday’s clash in this betting preview before sharing my Brisbane Roar vs. Melbourne City prediction and pick.

Brisbane Roar vs. Melbourne City Odds

Brisbane Roar to Win3.00
The Draw3.65
Melbourne City to Win2.25

Although Melbourne City is the deserved favorite to win the one, the high price for the away victory is a testament to Brisbane’s upturn over the past few months.

Only a fortnight ago, the Roar pushed City all the way in Melbourne before losing 3-2. If the hosts can produce a similar display on Tuesday, they will almost certainly cause the visitors plenty of problems again.

Can Brisbane Solidify a Top-Six Berth?

The Roar survived an unwanted scare to eventually overcome struggling Newcastle last time out. Riku Danzaki opened the scoring before Jay O’Shea canceled out his own goal by netting at the right end of the pitch.

Danzaki is now Brisbane’s top scorer this season, having chalked up eight goals and one assist during his debut A-League campaign. Meanwhile, O’Shea took his tally to two goals and three assists against the Jets.

Not only have Warren Moon’s men lost just two of their previous 11 games, but they have also won five of their previous nine.

As well as seeing off Newcastle, Brisbane has beaten Macarthur, Western Sydney, Central Coast, and Western United in that time.

That said, the Queenslanders have struggled on home soil this term. They have only managed to win three of their ten matches at Moreton Daily Stadium, recording five draws and two defeats along the way.

Will City Go 11 Games Unbeaten?

With three regular-season matches left to play, nobody is capable of catching Melbourne City at the A-League summit.

Kisnorbo’s side clinched the plate with a 1-0 win over the Mariners on Saturday, while Craig Noone scored his sixth goal of the season. Let’s not forget that Noone also has eight assists to his name this year.

Of course, Jamie Maclaren – who has racked up 25 goals and five assists – has been City’s standout performer this season. But every single player deserves huge credit for securing the club’s maiden title.

There is no time for celebrations, though. Kisnorbo’s men may have lost just one of their last 17 games, but they will be eager to finish the regular season on a positive note and carry their momentum into the Finals Series.

My Roar vs. City Betting Pick

  • Melbourne City

Having considered everything, I’m siding with the betting sites on this occasion. Sure, the Roar have upped their game in recent months. But the newly-crowned premiers have been on a totally different level to the other teams in the league.

Kisnorbo’s men have only lost one of their previous eight away matches, picking up five wins and two draws in the process. I’m backing them to add another victory to their road tally on Tuesday.
