Brisbane Heat vs. Perth Scorchers – Big Bash League, January 26, 2021
The Heat know they must beat the Scorchers on Tuesday to stand any chance of qualifying for the BBL 10 playoffs – it’s as simple as that.
With just one game remaining, Darren Lehmann’s men find themselves sixth in the standings, while Perth has already secured a spot in the final five.
I assess the betting odds before sharing my Brisbane Heat vs. Perth Scorchers prediction and pick.
Brisbane Heat vs. Perth Scorchers Odds
The Scorchers (1.60) currently hold a seven-point lead over the Heat (2.20), so it is no real surprise that the leading online sportsbooks view Adam Voges’ men as the favorites here.
Having said that, the Queenslanders have no choice but to go for broke on Tuesday. It is difficult to gauge exactly what will happen.
Brisbane Heat vs. Perth Scorchers Preview
Following a damaging 82-run loss to the Strikers last week, the Heat kept their playoff dreams alive with a 26-run victory over the Renegades on Saturday.
Once again, Chris Lynn and Mark Steketee were the stars of the show. Lynn smashed 52 off 30 to get his side off to a flier before Steketee took 3/41 as the Gades were bowled out for 147.
Not only has Lynn scored four half-centuries this season, but he has also made five catches in the field. Meanwhile, only one player has taken more wickets than Steketee. This makes Lehmann’s side dangerous in every department.
Still, the Queenslanders have a lot of work to do. Having won just two of their last five games, a loss on Tuesday would spell the end of their BBL 10 campaign.
Conversely, picking up all four points would almost certainly see the Heat seal a top-five finish and advance to the playoffs.
On the other hand, the Scorchers have already booked their place in the next round. With eight wins in their previous nine outings, the three-time champions are fast becoming the favorites to go all the way again.
In Jhye Richardson, the Western Australians boast the leading wicket-taker in the competition. The paceman has picked up 26 wickets in 13 matches this season, along with an impressive economy rate of just 6.75.
Better still, big-hitters Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, and Colin Munro are all in frightening form with the bat. If those three get going at the top of the order, Voges’ side invariably wins.
Munro scored 82 as the Scorchers crushed the Heat by 59 runs last week, while Lehmann’s side was bowled out for just 115. If Tuesday’s game is anything like the previous meeting between these two teams, the Heat will be humiliated once again.
The Scorchers have already qualified for the playoffs, but a win on Tuesday could see them secure home-field advantage for the next round. Given how well they have performed in Perth this year, that is a massive incentive.
Brisbane Heat vs. Perth Scorchers Betting Pick
Perth Scorchers to Win1.60
We all know Brisbane needs to win this game to secure a playoff spot. However, it is difficult to forget about last week’s easy win for the Scorchers in this fixture.
The Heat will no doubt give their all, but I just can’t see the Scorchers losing. Voges’ men are on a seemingly unstoppable run right now, meaning Brisbane’s BBL 10 campaign is likely to be ended on Tuesday.
