Brisbane Heat vs. Melbourne Renegades – Big Bash League, January 14, 2021

| January 11, 2021 2:00 pm PDT

Following eight failed attempts, the Renegades finally picked up their first win of the season last time out, beating the Strikers with just a single ball to spare.

Next up, the Gades face the Heat at Marvel Stadium on Thursday, January 14, with the Queenslanders looking to pick up their fourth win in five games.

I discuss the bookies’ odds before sharing my Brisbane Heat vs. Melbourne Renegades prediction and betting pick.

Brisbane Heat vs. Melbourne Renegades Odds

Brisbane Heat to Win1.68
Melbourne Renegades to Win2.05

For the first time, the Renegades (2.05) head into a BBL 10 game on the back of a victory. But 10bet still views the Heat (1.68) as the favorites to win on Thursday.

The Queenslanders sit seven points ahead of the Gades in the table, so it is difficult to argue with the bookmakers’ standpoint here.

Brisbane Heat vs. Melbourne Renegades Preview

The Heat’s three-game winning streak was brought to an end by the Sixers on Sunday. However, Brisbane pushed the defending champions all the way.

Chris Lynn scored 56 as Darren Lehmann’s side finished on 148 runs, but an inspired batting performance from Dan Christian saw the Sixers claim the win right at the death.

With the exception of Lynn, Brisbane’s batsmen haven’t made too much of an impact this season. Thankfully, the bowlers have remained consistent throughout the campaign.

Only Jhye Richardson (17) has claimed more BBL 10 wickets than Mark Steketee (15), while Mujeeb Ur Rahman (12) has been prolific, too. With Lewis Gregory, Jack Wildermuth, and James Bazely also chipping in, the Heat are a serious threat with the ball.

If Max Bryant, Joe Denly, and Joe Burns can support Lynn with the bat, Lemann’s men should secure a top-five finish without any real problems.

The Renegades now have just five games to turn their season around. An eight-game winless run means the Melbourne franchise is rooted to the foot of the table, but last week’s victory over the Strikers has given Michael Klingler’s men a glimmer of hope.

Mohammad Nabi was the star of the show last time out, smashing 71* off 41 to get his team over the line. However, the Gades will be without the Afghani for the remainder of the tournament, with the big-hitter departing for international duty.

With Nabi gone, Aaron Finch must step up. The captain has been hugely disappointing with the bat this term, scoring just 146 runs in eight innings – averaging 18.25.

Kane Richardson has been a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy campaign for the Renegades. Only six players have taken more BBL 10 wickets than the paceman, so the Heat’s batsmen will be wary of the threat that he poses.

Brisbane Heat vs. Melbourne Renegades Prediction and Pick

  • Brisbane Heat to Win

Sure, the Renegades will be full of belief after securing their first win of the season. But I’m confident that the Heat will return to winning ways on Thursday.

I’ve been hugely impressed with the Queenslanders in recent weeks. They are yet to face the Gades this term, yet they can take confidence from the fact that Klinger’s men have struggled against every other team they have faced.
