Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Manchester City – English Premier League, May 18, 2021

Manchester City has already won the EFL Cup and the league this season, but still has the biggest prize of all – the Champions League final – to look forward to at the end of the month.

Brighton might be able to take advantage of the City players possibly having their minds on other things on Tuesday therefore, as it hopes to finish off the season in a positive manner.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Manchester City Odds

Manchester City to Win-195

Manchester City plays two EPL games in six games before having another six games to rest before that Champions League final against Chelsea. But the betting sites don’t see that as a problem, installing the champions as odds on favorite to beat Brighton on Tuesday.

The home side may not be fancied, but the odds for the draw might interest some.

Match Preview

Brighton has steadily improved this season and ended up safe from relegation with a number of games to spare.

But there has been a problem scoring goals for the Seagulls – so when Danny Welbeck found the net in the 84th minute against West Ham on Saturday it looked as though he had won the game and ruined the London club’s Champions League prospects in the process.

But, without Lewis Dunk marshaling at the back, Brighton conceded just three minutes later and had to settle for the draw. It was still a good point for Graham Potter’s side, but a disappointing way to end the game.

Premier League safety was the biggest thing this season though – and with that already achieved, Manchester City should have an easier game than it might have had on Tuesday.

Even the most second-string of second-string Manchester City sides is to be feared though and Brighton should be on its guard no matter who Pep Guardiola selects for this one. Scott Carson was recalled to a Premier League starting eleven for the first time in a decade against Newcastle on Friday – although he did concede three in the seven-goal thriller.

After all the talk about Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus this season, Ferran Torres reminded everyone he was still available by scoring a very impressive hat-trick in that game and will now be an option for the Champions League final.

Pep might play around with his selection again here, but it should still be too strong for a weakened Brighton.

My Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Manchester City to Win

With such a big game coming up at the end of the month for Manchester City, this should be an opportunity to take advantage of some long odds for a Brighton win.

But I just can’t see the home side, without Dunk, being able to keep out the champions on Tuesday.
