Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Chelsea Betting Preview – EPL, September 14, 2020

The first round of fixtures in the new Premier League season is rounded off with Chelsea’s trip to the south coast to take on Brighton.

Frank Lampard will get a first chance to see his newly assembled team of big-money signings in action – and Graham Potter will have to have done his homework to stop what could be a very one-sided game.

MyBookie has gone along with virtually everyone else outside Brighton and backed Chelsea to come away from the AMEX with three points on Monday. I’m only surprised that the odds gap is not larger, as Chelsea looks like being a real force in the league this season.

Match Preview

Graham Potter achieved his main task last season of keeping Brighton on the Premier League. But he was unable to come up with a way of getting his team to score more goals – and that must be a top priority as the Seagulls begin the new campaign.

The group of new arrivals does little to change the idea that Brighton will play any differently this season and it looks like a lot of faith is being put in Adam Lallana to drive the team forward. The former Liverpool midfielder will fill the void left by Aaron Mooy who has moved to the Chinese Super League.

But it is the new signings at Stamford Bridge that have been making headlines for the majority of the short offseason. Hakim Ziyech had already joined (but will be unavailable on Monday) but Frank Lampard has been able to unveil Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, and Thiago Silva in the past few weeks.

Along with Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount, Chelsea’s attacking strength should be able to give just about anyone a game in the Premier League this season. It does depend on how quickly it takes for the new players to settle in England, but this looks like being a very good team.

Brighton vs. Chelsea Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Chelsea to Win

This could end up being the most one-sided game of the first set of fixtures, as Chelsea will surely have too much for what is a limited Brighton team at the best of times. I’m expecting Timo Werner to be a major star in the Premier League this season and he could get off to the best possible start on Monday night. This should go down as a Chelsea win.
