Pick and Prediction for Brewers vs. Padres – Tuesday, May 24th (2022)
We have one of the best matchups of the early season with two top National League teams going head to head on Tuesday. The Milwaukee Brewers are in town for a matchup with the San Diego Padres.
This is Game 2 of the 3 game series after the Padres won yesterday’s game 3-2. The Brewers will look to even up the series in this one.
Milwaukee is sitting in first place with their 26-16 and are in first place in the NL Central. San Diego has a very similar record at 28-14, but are in second place in the NL West.
This should be a great game and should be fun to bet on. Let’s take a look at the Brewers vs. Padres odds for Tuesday and see which team we should be betting on.
Brewers vs. Padres Odds for Tuesday
Despite being on the road, the Brewers find themselves favored to win this game. The biggest reason for that is the starting pitchers. Reigning NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes will be taking the mound for the Brewers in this one, while 2018 AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell will oppose.
You can just take a look at their ERAs this year and see why the odds are this way. Burnes has 2.27 ERA, while Snell is at 7.36. Snell is making his second start of the season and has been battling some big injury problems recently.
As far as betting against the spread goes, San Diego has been much better than Milwaukee this season. The Padres are 24-17 ATS and rank 4th in the MLB, while the Brewers are at 18-23 which ranks 26th.
The run total for this game is set at a low 6.5, which is due to the great pitching that both of these teams possess.

Brewers vs. Padres Matchup Preview
These two teams are some of the best in baseball so far. The Brewers are currently sitting in first place in the NL Central and have a 2.0 game lead over the Cardinals. Their best stretch of the season so far was very impressive from April 12th to May 6th, when they went 18-5.
Milwaukee is a very well balanced team as well, ranking 9th in the MLB with 4.6 runs per game and 10th (tied) in runs allowed per game with 3.9.
They have an incredible starting pitching rotation and the reigning NL Cy Young winner is taking the mound in Corbin Burnes. Here’s a look at Burnes’ stats this season;
- 1-2 record
- 2.27 ERA (51.2 IP)
- 0.83 WHIP
- 62 Strikeouts
- 8 Walks
The record isn’t pretty, but it’s sure to improve over the course of this season. His ERA has been stellar as well as his incredible K/BB ratio. He’s a legitimate candidate to win the Cy Young for a second year in a row, so that should give the Brewers a strong chance to win this game.
San Diego on the other hand will be sending out their own former Cy Young winner in Blake Snell, who won the 2018 AL award. He’s had recent performance and health issues, but he does have great career numbers against Milwaukee hitters.
The Padres also rank very close to the Brewers in runs per game (9th) and runs allowed as well (7th).
These teams are very evenly matched, so it might come down to the Machado vs. Burnes matchup.
Same Game Parlay for Brewers vs. Padres
If you’re looking to build a nice parlay for this game with valuable odds, here are 4 selections for you. These 4 picks combine for (+600) odds on Bovada, so a $100 bet would cash into $700 if all legs hit.
Corbin Burnes is coming off a below average start for him, but he was still able to register 5 strikeouts against the Braves. He was able to get at least 7 strikeouts in his previous 6 starts in a row. He’s only had 8 starts this season, so that comes out to a 75% success rate.

He faced the Padres twice in 2021, striking out 10 and 7 in those starts. Burnes should be able to bounce back from his last start and he has good career numbers against the Padres.
Even though Blake Snell is a pretty inconsistent pitcher, he does get his strikeouts. He pitched just 3.2 innings in his season debut against the Phillies and was still able to reach 5 strikeouts. Snell could possibly pitch a little deeper into this game and build on his performance.
He’s been able to strike out a good number of these Brewers’ hitters in his career, so 6 strikeouts should be within his range even if he only goes 4 innings.
I will say, Brewers’ hitters Andrew McCutchen and Hunter Renfroe could be in for big games. McCutchen has been able to hit 2 hits, runs, and RBI in 3 straight games. Renfroe is batting .325 against lefties this year and is batting an incredible .500 in the last week (9/18).
Brewers vs. Padres Betting Pick for 5/24/2022
Milwaukee Brewers to Win-133
Although I do think Blake Snell could have a decent pitching performance here, he’s still incredibly unreliable. He’s always been a little wild and he’s not at his best right now. There’s probably a strong chance he’s shaky again and gives up a lot of baserunners.
In the month of May, Milwaukee’s offense ranks 4th in the league in wRC+. The Padres on the other hand have been much worse at 25th. The Brewers’ bullpen also ranks 3rd in terms of WAR this season, while the Padres’ rank 10th.
The starting pitching matchup should allow the Brewers to get the lead, while the Brewers’ bullpen is more than good enough to seal the deal.
