Brazil vs. Ecuador – 2021 Copa America (June 27)
Everything has gone according to plan for Tite and his Brazil team so far at Copa America 2021. Three wins out three have seen the hosts already through to the quarterfinals and preparing to continue its 100% record against Ecuador.
With only one team missing out on progressing to the last eight, Ecuador needs to win to make sure of a berth – or avoid a heavy defeat and hope that Peru can do it a favor by beating Venezuela. Read on to find out how I think this game will go and for my Brazil vs. Ecuador betting pick.
Brazil’s Copa America So Far
- Brazil 3 Venezuela 0
- Brazil 4 Peru 0
- Brazil 2 Colombia 1
Brazil has looked far better than any other team in the tournament so far, even though it needed a winner in the 10th minute of added on time to finally overcome Colombia in the last game. Neymar has been at the center of everything and will undoubtedly be the focus in this fixture too.
It is not as though Tite’s side does not have a variety of talented stars to win games – and there have been others, such as Richarlison, Firmino and Marquinhos, scoring goals. But it all happens because Neymar is pulling the strings. Even when he is not directly involved, he is making space for his teammates to exploit.
Brazil will look to finish off the group stage with another victory and will believe that that is very possible against an Ecuador side that has looked good only in patches in the three games so far. There might not be an avalanche of goals here, as Brazil looks to conserve some energy, but a win for the Selecao is definitely on the cards.
Ecuador’s Copa America So Far
- Ecuador 0 Colombia 1
- Ecuador 2 Venezuela 2
- Ecuador 2 Peru 2
If Ecuador could just see out games it might already have qualified for the knockout stages. Twice it has led before having to settle for a single point. The stoppage time goal conceded against Venezuela was a bitter blow, but managing just a draw from a two-goal half time lead against Peru will have really annoyed head coach Gustavo Alfaro.
Ecuador would have expected to be battling Venezuela for the fourth and final quarterfinal berth before the tournament began. So to give the Vinotinto such a chance to snatch it from its grasp in the final round of fixtures will be a huge disappointment. Now Alfaro will hope that his defenders can do a good enough job in Goiania to ensure that his side goes through.
Eduar Preciado looks to be the main chance of upsetting the hosts. The left winger has already scored twice in the group stage and has been more of a threat than striker Michael Estrada so far. Whether or not he gets much of a chance of even a shot on goal against this Brazil team is another question entirely though.
Odds for Brazil vs. Ecuador and My Betting Pick
BetOnline gives Ecuador very little chance of beating Brazil on Sunday and even Gustavo Alfaro will expect the result of the other game in the Zona Norte to have more of a bearing on who goes through to the quarterfinals.
I’m not sure that we should be expecting a big win for Brazil though. It has already stamped its authority on this competition with the thrashings of Venezuela and Peru in the first two games. The win over Colombia was a little too close for comfort and I expect Brazil to do just enough to ease to a win here without exerting itself too much ahead of the later rounds.
