Bordeaux vs. Dijon Betting Preview – Ligue 1, October 4, 2020

| September 30, 2020 6:30 am PDT

Bordeaux hosts bottom-club Dijon on Sunday, October 4, with both sides in desperate need of three points. The Owls are without a win this season following four defeats and a draw, although Bordeaux has only managed to win one of their opening five games.

Still, the Girondins have suffered just one defeat this term. Three draws have kept the club afloat, but Jean Louis Gasset will be eager for his side to return to winning ways this weekend.

You can find my Bordeaux vs. Dijon prediction and betting pick below.

Bordeaux vs. Dijon Odds

Bordeaux to Win 1.62
The Draw 3.75
Dijon to Win 5.10

Dijon (5.10) may be without a win this season, but the price for the away victory seems pretty high here. As you can see, 10bet views Bordeaux (1.62) as the outright favorite to win this game. But the host has been far from convincing in recent weeks.

Could the draw (3.75) be the way to go? Let’s assess both teams’ chances and attempt to make sense of the odds.

Match Preview

It’s difficult to predict how Bordeaux will fare when Dijon comes to town this weekend. Having only lost one of their opening five games, I suppose their start could be viewed as a success. But when you look at it from a different angle, the Girondins have only managed to claim one win so far this season.

Of course, there is no shame in drawing with Lyon or Nice. Both those teams finished significantly higher in the table last term, so Gasset will be happy that his side avoided defeat against two of the stronger teams in the division. However, the draw with Nantes on Matchday 1 was a disappointment.

Talking of disappointments, Bordeaux’s 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Lens on Matchday 4 is a result that Gasset will want to forget pretty quickly. The Girondins were completely outclassed by the Ligue 1 newcomer a fortnight ago, so the manager will be looking for a response from his players this weekend.

Meanwhile, Dijon finally ended a run of four straight defeats by drawing 2-2 with Montpellier last time out. Losses to Angers, Lyon, Brest, and Strasbourg left the Owls rooted to the bottom of the table, but they eventually managed to pick up their first point of the season last weekend.

It is no secret that Stephane Jobard’s men are struggling at both ends of the pitch. Not only are they the joint-lowest scorers in the division this season (3), but they also have the second-worst defensive record in Ligue 1 (10).

With just one point to their name and a goal difference of –7, it’s safe to say the Owls have made a dismal start to the 2020/21 campaign. Having said that, facing a wildly inconsistent Bordeaux team could well be exactly what Dijon needs right now.

Bordeaux vs. Dijon Pick

  • The Draw

I believe a trip to Bordeaux provides Dijon with the ideal opportunity to build on their draw with Montpellier last weekend. I’m not saying the Owls will come away with all three points, but I can see them snatching a draw.

The Girondins have been very unpredictable so far this season and have only managed to score in two of their five games. We could see Dijon take advantage of Bordeaux’s lack of attacking power.
