The college basketball betting action has just started, so we continue to break down the most interesting matchups around the country. In this post, I bring you the best Boise State Broncos vs. Houston Cougars betting pick for Friday, November 27.

These two interconference foes haven’t met since 2014 when the Broncos barely outlasted the Cougars 75-73 as 10.5-point home favorites.

Boise State vs. Houston Odds

Boise State (+11.5) -110
Houston (-11.5) -110
Boise State to Win +550
Houston to Win -909
Over 144.5 -105
Under 144.5 -115

The Broncos will start the new season with this one, visiting the Cougars at Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas.

On the other side, the hosts opened the season Wednesday against the Lamar Cardinals, so the Cougars will have just one day to rest and prepare for their next rivals. Still, the Cougars will be listed as favorites for Friday’s clash.

A Look at the Broncos

The Broncos finished the previous season at the fifth spot of the Mountain West Conference standings. They went 20-12 overall and 11-7 in the conference play, ranking 90th in the NCAA NET Rankings.

Boise State was the No. 83 at the last season’s KenPom rankings. The Broncos were scoring 107.0 points per game (88th in the country) while surrendering 97.6 to their opponents (81st).

Although they lost four important players from the previous season, the Broncos return their top scorer Derrick Alston. Senior guard averaged 17.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, and he’ll be a key guy for the Broncos this term.

Senior forward Abu Kigab will be another important member of the Broncos’ starting lineup. He was tallying 11.1 points and 3.6 boards per contest last season.

Assessing the Cougars

The Cougars are reigning AAC regular-season co-champions. They were 23-8 overall last season while posting a 13-5 record in the conference play, as well as two more schools in the American Athletic Conference.

Houston finished the 2019-20 season as the No. 20 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 14 in the KenPom rankings, so it’s safe to say that the Cougars enjoyed a wonderful season. They were scoring 112.7 points per game (22nd in the nation) while yielding 92.3 in a return (22nd).

The Cougars return two of their three top scorers from the previous season, as the 6-foot-5 guard Nate Hinton joined the professionals after averaging 10.6 points and 8.7 boards in his sophomore year.

Guards Caleb Mills (13.2 PPG, 2.6 RPG) and Quentin Grimes (12.1 PPG, 2.6 APG) will continue to lead the way for the Cougars, while PG Dejon Jarreau (9.0 PPG, 3.7 APG) will be another key player in Houston’s backcourt.

Boise State vs. Houston Pick

Despite the fact that the Broncos will be fresh for this clash, I’m backing the Cougars to win and cover.

Houston played Lamar in the opener which should’ve been an easy task for the Cougars. Also, I’m not taking fatigue into the consideration, as it’s the first week of the new season, but the Cougars kept most of their last season’s squad which should be a key factor.

Excluding their opener against the Cardinals, the Cougars are 10-0 SU and 7-3 ATS in their previous ten outings at home. On the other side, the Broncos are 4-6 SU and ATS in their last ten showings on the road and are 1-3 SU and ATS in their previous four games when listed as underdogs.

  • Houston Cougars (-11.5)
